No Man’s Sky is Getting Highest Peak Concurrent Players on PC Since Launch

The space exploration game No Man’s Sky has experienced a significant increase in active users after receiving its Voyagers update about a week ago. Creator Sean Murray from Hello Games shared his excitement on social media platform X, expressing delight as the game reached record-breaking numbers of simultaneous players, which is the highest since its initial release.

Murray mentioned on X that “No Man’s Sky” has seen the highest number of players since its launch, as evidenced by a screenshot showing 97,986 people playing. Although the exact date of this surge in simultaneous players isn’t specified in the screenshot, a brief check on SteamDB suggests that the game achieved a peak of 98,285 concurrent players earlier this week.

According to Steam’s rankings, “No Man’s Sky” is currently one of the most-played PC games, with over 50,000 active players and a peak of 78,259 players within a 24-hour period. The game reclaimed its spot on the top sellers list, ranking at number 10 from August 26 to September 2. When considering sales revenue, “No Man’s Sky” currently ranks 9th among the top 100 bestselling games at present.

It’s quite possible that the surge in player numbers is due to the recent Voyagers update, which introduced an array of innovative features. One such feature lets players design their own Corvette-class starship from the ground up. Furthermore, this update expanded customization possibilities by allowing players to modify various aspects of their vessel, such as altering the ship’s living quarters and hull, along with other modifications.

Additionally, Voyagers introduced the capability for gamers to navigate their Corvette-class spaceship through space and then freely depart from it, drifting weightlessly in the cosmos. This innovative feature even extends to enabling players, given they have the necessary survival gear, to jump from a starship orbiting a planet directly onto the planet’s surface as it passes through the atmosphere.

The new feature in the game allows players to construct their own Corvette-class starships from the ground up. This addition includes a mission board where players can now register as a team for a mission. By doing so, the entire co-op crew can earn rewards based on the missions they undertake and complete within their local system.

In addition to the latest changes with the Voyagers update, under-the-hood advancements were introduced to boost the game’s speed and efficiency. These improvements include compatibility with Nvidia’s DLSS 4 tech. For players using PlayStation VR2, they can leverage the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution technology (PSSR) to enjoy enhanced image quality while preserving smooth frame rates on their VR headset. Similarly, the game now supports Intel’s XeSS 2 upscaling technologies as well.

The game called “No Man’s Sky” is playable on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and a future version of Nintendo Switch. Initially released in 2016, the game received mixed reviews from critics at first. Despite some initial criticisms and cool reception, the developers, Hello Games, have consistently added free updates to the game, transforming “No Man’s Sky” significantly since its launch, making it quite different from how it was initially.
