CD Projekt RED’s hints about a possible announcement for Cyberpunk 2077 on September 4, while exciting, have turned out to be less significant. The studio clarified that they do not have any planned announcements or reveals for new content related to Cyberpunk 2077 or its Phantom Liberty expansion. Instead, the tease was primarily about celebrating the approaching anniversary of Phantom Liberty, which CD Projekt RED is planning to mark later this month.
Just wanted to let you know, this isn’t about announcing or revealing any new game content. Instead, it’s related to the activities we’re organizing for the anniversary of Phantom Liberty, which we’re celebrating this month, as shared by the Cyberpunk 2077 official social media account.
This explanation came as a reply to a playful jab from earlier this week containing an internal message within the game world directed at N.U.S.A. residents. Highlighting September 4, 2025 as a significant date, the message serves as a rallying cry for gamers to unite and confront a serious danger posed by hidden adversaries. Essentially, the jab can be interpreted as an in-game advertisement aimed at recruiting N.U.S.A. military personnel.
It has been speculated whether the recent announcement was a hint towards a new DLC or update for Cyberpunk 2077. In response, senior community manager Amelia Korzucka addressed this on social media by stating that “What I can confirm is it’s neither a DLC nor a patch.
The most recent significant upgrade for Cyberpunk 2077 was patch 2.3, released in July. This update introduced numerous improvements and novel features, with AutoDrive being one of the standout additions. AutoDrive enables players to hand over driving control to the game, allowing them to travel to any desired destination without having to manually drive a vehicle – whether it’s for quest objectives or custom markers placed by the player themselves.
In the latest update, four fresh vehicles were introduced: Yaiba ARV-Q340 Semimaru, Rayfield Caliburn “Mordred,” Yaiba ASM-R250 Muramasa, and Chevillon Legatus 450 Aquila. Players can acquire these vehicles by completing new side missions. The update also resurrected the Delamain Taxi Service. During this period, CD Projekt RED has been simultaneously developing a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. Notably, the team working on Cyberpunk 2 expanded from 96 members in late April to 116 members by the end of July. Similarly, the development team for The Witcher 4 increased from 422 members in April to 444 members by the end of July.
In a recent investor presentation, Michal Nowakowski, our co-CEO, reported that our hiring process has noticeably accelerated over the past three months. This increase in speed has led to an expansion of our team of skilled developers, now totaling approximately 800 individuals – a growth of about 10%. The majority of this growth is attributed to our two largest development teams.
Cyberpunk 2077 is available on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
For your information, this isn’t about unveiling any new game content but rather a related event we’re hosting as part of our Phantom Liberty anniversary celebrations this month.
