The Status of Every Live-Action Star Wars TV Show: What’s Cancelled & What’s Renewed

Starfighter” featuring Ryan Gosling (set for release on May 28, 2027), as well as animated series such as “Star Wars: Visions” in its third season this October and “Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord” on Disney+ in 2026, are among the projects lined up. However, the exact number of these upcoming Star Wars projects that will continue the live-action series on Disney+ is yet to be determined.

So far, a total of seven live-action Star Wars series have premiered on Disney+, with some garnering the status of modern classics, while others appear to have had their run. But are there plans for any of these shows to return? Let’s explore.

1) The Mandalorian

Disney Plus’ iconic series, whether Star Wars-related or not, such as “The Mandalorian,” is set to return. Specifically, the beloved characters from the show are coming back. The first season received acclaim in 2019, and the second season even surpassed it in 2020. However, after a brief hiatus, Disney Plus has finally begun production on Season 3.

During that third year, both critics and audiences had somewhat varying opinions, but generally liked it. There were initial plans for a fourth season, though it’s yet to be officially confirmed. On the other hand, what has been confirmed is a theatrical film titled “The Mandalorian and Grogu“, produced by Jon Favreau, creator and showrunner of The Mandalorian. This movie will premiere in cinemas on May 22, 2026. Pedro Pascal and Grogu are reprising their roles, with Sigourney Weaver and Jeremy Allen White from “The Bear” also joining the cast.

2) The Book of Boba Fett

The highly anticipated show, titled “The Book of Boba Fett,” was expected to delve into the character’s backstory extensively. However, as the series progressed, it appeared more like an extension of “The Mandalorian” Season 2 rather than a standalone narrative for Boba Fett. Unfortunately, it seems that a complete live-action tale centered around this beloved character may never come to fruition.

In simpler terms, it appears that actor Temuera Morrison, who portrayed Boba Fett, may not be returning to the Star Wars universe for more appearances. Given that The Book of Boba Fett has been out for nearly four years and was initially a miniseries rather than the start of an ongoing series, it seems probable that the story will remain complete without further additions.

3) Obi-Wan Kenobi

Similar to “The Book of Boba Fett,” “Obi-Wan Kenobi” was eagerly awaited, centering on a beloved character. However, just like with “Boba Fett” and other media, if “Obi-Wan Kenobi” had achieved both critical acclaim and commercial success, there likely would have been additional episodes or seasons.

It’s true that the finale of Obi-Wan had about a 20% higher viewership compared to The Book of Boba Fett, and was also well-received by critics. Nevertheless, there are no plans for a second season featuring Ewan McGregor yet. Some think this is for the best since the story arc between Obi-Wan and Leia concluded nicely in the miniseries. Still, it wouldn’t be shocking if Disney isn’t completely done with the character of Obi-Wan portrayed by McGregor.

4) Andor

It’s straightforward that the creator and head writer of Star Wars: Andor, Tony Gilroy, originally planned the series to span over two seasons from the get-go.

Now, it’s time to acknowledge that those remarkable two seasons have come to an end. Andor, on Disney+, has truly shined as the pinnacle of small-screen Star Wars tales. Prolonging the narrative any further might not do justice to these stellar seasons.

5) Ahsoka

Following his role as executive producer on both “The Mandalorian” and “The Book of Boba Fett”, Dave Filoni went on to develop “Star Wars: Ahsoka”. For the large part, fans found it appealing. Rosario Dawson’s portrayal of the main character was commendable, several action scenes were thrilling, and overall, it served as a strong addition to the Star Wars universe.

The show clearly paved the way for a second season, which is now happening. The series premiered in August 2023, with a second season announcement made in January 2024. Filming began in April 2025, so if the production-to-air date timeline for Season 2 mirrors that of Season 1, we can expect it to air on Disney+ approximately in July 2026.

6) The Acolyte

Most critics generally appreciated the new Star Wars series titled “Star Wars: The Acolyte,” but a significant number of fans did not share this sentiment. Additionally, the show faced considerable backlash for being perceived as overly politically correct and for other reasons that some detractors falsely claimed to dislike.

Approximately four weeks following the conclusion of the initial season, Disney declared they wouldn’t renew the show for a second installment. The stated reason was insufficient viewership after the first couple of episodes. This audience drop had led to the significant production cost of $180 million, an expense that would probably have escalated in Season 2 due to additional costs.

7) Skeleton Crew

Instead of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew being labeled as a miniseries like some other series, it was not. Currently, it hasn’t been given a second season, though that doesn’t mean it’s been officially canceled; it simply hasn’t been renewed yet.

In terms of viewership, Skeleton Crew had the least number of viewers among all Star Wars shows based on Nielsen data, suggesting that a Season 2 might not be guaranteed. However, considering it caters well to children, strong sales in merchandise could potentially prompt a renewal. We’ll have to wait and see about its future.
