As a devoted admirer, I’d like to highlight that Hollow Knight, this extraordinary indie game, is a masterpiece created by the talented three-person studio, Team Cherry. It has left an unforgettable mark on the gaming world, with more than 15 million copies sold so far, demonstrating its universal appeal.
In February 2019, Hollow Knight: Silksong, which was initially designed to be an expansion pack, was unveiled, and since then, enthusiasts have eagerly awaited its debut.
Ultimately, it will be available on September 4th, but the question remains: Does the game justify its long-awaited release and the immense buzz that has built up around it, causing many storefronts to crash at launch?
For the very first time launching Silksong, instead of encountering the named Knight, it will be his adversary, Hornet, who welcomes you.
Her adventure starts as she’s abducted by enigmatic captors wearing cloaks, who take her to a realm called Pharloom, a place plagued by a curse of both silk and music.
Accompanied, a tiny bug alights on Hornet’s enclosure, causing it to break open and plummet into the initial zone known as Mossy Grotto. The question arises – who would wish to apprehend Hornet, and why were they transporting her to Pharloom? With an abundance of queries and scarce responses, Hornet embarks on a journey through perilous territories, aiming to ascend to the Citadel to confront its rulers for clarification.
Initially, when you start the game, you’ll only have access to your fundamental moves like a jumping ability and a needle-slashing attack. You won’t find any tools available to use, and there will be no map to guide your way through the game.
In the initial stages of the game, it becomes particularly demanding as you struggle to adapt to the novel setting, confront fresh adversaries, and master the updated moveset of Hornet.
In Mossy Grotto, there are numerous opportunities for hunting spiky caterpillars and moths, but without acquiring a map and compass using the newly introduced rosary beads as currency, you might find yourself in a frustrating situation of being lost and uncertain about your direction.
As you explore Pharloom, you’ll find that controlling Hornet contrasts markedly with the past series protagonists. Her enhanced agility makes her remarkably swift and agile compared to the Knight, enabling her to jump higher, run faster, perform flips, and even diagonally slash enemies from above.
In simple terms, Crests are an exciting new feature in Silksong. These Crests modify the way your needle attacks, allowing for quick, short thrusts or wider, sweeping strikes with a broader range. Additionally, they offer multiple colorful slots to accommodate various tools, amulets, and pendants for equipment.
Each collected item receives its own color designation and can be worn in accordance with your crest’s arrangement. For example, initially, you are given the Hunter’s Crest that permits wearing one utility item of each color. However, other crests offer additional slots, offering enhanced customization options for your character build.
In an enhancement to the initial game, what we now have are called Wishwalls. Instead of merely obtaining items from specific characters, you’re tasked with completing wishes, akin to bounties displayed in the central town, Bone Bottom.
Tasks can range from a straightforward mission like picking a few berries for a potion maker, to a challenging one such as defeating a group of foes and gathering their loot. The diverse nature of these assignments makes exploring previously visited locations even more appealing.
As a gaming enthusiast, diving into the intricate world of Hollow Knight has always been an exhilarating experience – and that’s no exception for Silksong! With more than 40 fresh beasts standing in my way, it’s time to sharpen my skills and prove myself worthy once again.
To date, the Bell Beast has been our most notable feature. Modeled after the largest bug that ever scuttled across the planet, it swiftly moves from one side to another and unearths large bells that you must evade. If you manage to decipher its pattern of rapid dashes, jumps, and bell-launching attacks for a sufficient duration to conquer this beast, it will become an ally on your journey, helping you traverse quickly between key destinations by facilitating fast travel between major locations.
One more significant adversary we often face is the Fourth Choir, a robust robot characterized by metallic limbs that can break the platforms beneath you. Engaging with this foe necessitates precise timing to dodge the lava and prevent getting charred.
Thus far, each boss fight has been meticulously crafted and a delight to conquer, despite multiple deaths along the way. As you master their patterns, there’s a sense of advancement, as if muscle memory is guiding your progress.
It’s worth mentioning that compared to its predecessor, Hollow Knight: Silksong offers a greater challenge due to complex platforming sequences and tougher combat situations.
Learning the downward diagonal slash technique from Hornet, which allows you to bounce off opponents and surroundings to increase your altitude during platforming requires practice.
Additionally, the intensity of combat trials has significantly increased, as there are now multiple rounds featuring a diverse array of opponents appearing in each round.
As a thrilled player, I’m diving into this sequel that takes me on an exhilarating journey across diverse settings. Here, I not only jump but pogo my way through various locales. The twist? Dodging those pesky airborne adversaries is essential! This follow-up clearly ups the ante, offering a whole new level of excitement.
