In the eighth volume of “Wolverine,” we delve into the character’s life following the Krakoa Era. The demise of Krakoa was as impactful for Wolverine as it was for the rest of the X-Men, causing him to retreat into the wilderness and maintain a part-time relationship with his teammates. He’s also been entangled in a struggle against the Adamantine, an ancient magical metal that serves as the foundation for adamantium, which has been manipulated by his old adversaries. Miraculously, Wolverine made it through the ordeal, and the Adamantine now lurks ominously in the background. Not long after, he finds himself embroiled in a plot hinting at the return of his mother, orchestrated by Mastermind, a mutant with mind-controlling abilities. Lately, Wolverine has faced numerous trials, and issue #13 of “Wolverine” (Vol. 8) offers him some respite and an unexpected job opportunity.
Over the years, Wolverine has been on some extraordinary journeys. Born in the mid-19th century, he’s held various jobs throughout his life and consistently strived to improve himself while protecting the innocent. Although he’s often portrayed as a hero, there have been instances where he’s found himself in questionable situations, hinting at a possible return to such circumstances. In Wolverine #13, the character takes an unexpected turn by assuming the role of a mob boss, marking one of his most unusual exploits. However, what truly makes this development intriguing is uncovering the reasons behind it. Wolverine is capable of going to great lengths to settle debts and assist others, a trait that becomes increasingly evident as we delve deeper into his past, particularly the events leading to him becoming a Chicago mob boss.
Wolverine Does the Dirtiest Jobs

Wolverine initially lived as a pampered young aristocrat, but his life took a drastic turn when his latent mutant abilities surfaced during an attack by the family’s groundskeeper, who was actually his biological father, Thomas Logan. Escaping with their nursemaid Rose, they found refuge in a logging camp where Wolverine eventually became a logger himself. This marked the beginning of his diverse career that has included roles as a soldier, a forest dweller, a spy, a criminal partnered with Mystique, and a superhero. Despite the multitude of jobs he’s had over the years, Wolverine tends to take on the tougher, more dangerous assignments due to his ability to endure almost anything. Known for his ruthless efficiency, Wolverine excels at two things: killing and surviving. In the early 1900s, Wolverine crossed paths with the Andiamo crime family in Chicago. When their don was assassinated, he managed to secure the enchanted signet ring, believed to bring peace to the family’s operations. He held onto it for years before eventually returning it to Donna Angelina Andiamo, the current head of the family, during a time of crisis. Wolverine owed her a favor, and she would later call upon that debt in “Wolverine” (Vol. 8) #13.
For several years, the Andiamo and Flanagan families have been at odds, but recently, the reemergence of the signet has given the Andiamos the advantage. As a result, an olive branch has been extended by the Flanagans, but Angelina fears that not all of her family’s leaders align with their head, Linus, and that attending the meeting could put her life in jeopardy. She requests Wolverine to stand in for her; she wishes to elevate him as a made man, appoint him the don for the day, endure the Flanagans’ challenges against peace, sign the peace treaty, and achieve all this without causing harm to anyone. Wolverine consents and assumes the role of Don Logan, leading the Andiamo family, marking his first time as a mob boss in his many decades of existence.
Wolverine’s Time as a Mob Boss Brings Him New Allies

Up until now, the eighth volume of Wolverine hasn’t been particularly captivating, but it does contain some intriguing moments. The 13th issue of this volume invites readers to overlook certain aspects in order to appreciate its narrative flow, leading Wolverine down an unusual path. Although being a criminal is not foreign to Wolverine, especially when he briefly assumed a criminal identity after losing his healing factor, this storyline proves to be quite entertaining. It’s enjoyable watching Wolverine adopt the persona of a mob boss and engage in combat without causing excessive violence towards thugs.
Additionally, Wolverine acquires a new comrade. Donna Angelina Andiamo hints that since Wolverine has fulfilled the pledge he made to her, she is now indebted to him. Upon the arrival of Age of Revelation, it remains uncertain where Wolverine will find himself post-resolution in a few months. However, it’s likely that his path will intersect with the Adamantine and the Andiamos, who possess mystical powers as criminals, could potentially feature in the decisive battle. Despite the plot inconsistencies that are evident, this narrative may pave the way for intriguing destinations.
