As an observer, I can attest that “Hunter x Hunter” has truly taken on a life of its own within the vast shonen universe. The tale of Gon and his fellow hunters has struck a chord with audiences worldwide, gaining immense popularity through both its manga and anime adaptations. This success has catapulted creator Yoshihiro Togashi to the top spot as the “most followed” manga artist globally.
However, recent sales figures have revealed an unexpected twist: another anime franchise has managed to surpass “Hunter x Hunter” in terms of sales. It’s a surprising turn of events that has left many fans wondering which series outmaneuvered Gon and his team in the financial arena.
In simple terms, the manga “Kinnikuman,” known as “Ultimate Muscle” in North America, has surpassed the popularity of “Hunter x Hunter.” As of now, Kinnikuman boasts approximately 85 million copies in circulation, while Hunter x Hunter has sold around 84 million. However, it’s important to note that Kinnikuman had a significant head start, debuting in 1979, more than a decade before Hunter x Hunter hit the scene in 1998. This early advantage likely contributed to its impressive sales numbers. Despite trailing slightly now, Gon from Hunter x Hunter shouldn’t be disheartened by this, as Kinnikuman is a well-established institution in the anime world, still producing new adaptations and earning widespread recognition.
Ultimate Muscle’s Success
To mark the significant achievement of his long-running wrestling manga, author Takashi Shimada revealed the key to its success: “For 46 years, I’ve been consistently drawing with my partner Nakai, motivating each other, and taking relatively few breaks. I’m genuinely thrilled that the total number of Kinnikuman comic books sold has gone beyond 85 million. My companion Nakai and I have been pushing forward, side by side, from the age of 18 to 64, for an uninterrupted span of 46 years. Today’s successful mangas can sell millions in the first edition alone, and many have surpassed 100 million copies in total circulation. Even though our growth was slow compared to others, due to the fans who’ve supported us for 46 years, we’ve reached 85 million, which fills me with the greatest joy.
Regarding the popular shonen series “Hunter x Hunter”, Yoshihiro Togashi is diligently creating new chapters with the goal of surpassing “Kinnikuman” in terms of sales. On his social media, he has provided updates indicating that not only is he developing a fresh chapter for the series, but he has already progressed to chapter 418. This means that eight new chapters are currently being developed to continue the latest arc, known as the Succession Contest Arc. With Gon and Killua having been absent from the manga for quite some time now, fans eagerly await the anticipated comeback of “Hunter x Hunter” in the manga world.
Curious about whether Gon’s group can outperform the wrestling pros from “Ultimate Muscle”? Stay tuned to Team Anime on egmr.ru for fresh news on Hunter x Hunter, and feel free to share your thoughts below.
