Over the span from August 2025 through October, an impressive lineup of video games is set to drop, making it challenging to stay current. This period will witness the debuts of a new Battlefield title, Borderlands 4, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Mafia: The Old Country, Ghost of Yotei, Hollow Knight: Silksong, Dying Light: The Beast, and the upcoming Silent Hill game, just to mention a few. There’s always something new to play, but we eagerly anticipate our elusive favorites like GTA 6, and there are even secret projects in the works that we feel deeply certain will materialize.
In this tightly-guarded sector, we’re often left in the dark, relying on gossip, leaks, and guesswork to keep up with the happenings at our preferred video game developers. Given this, it appears opportune to scrutinize the current industry landscape and identify potential upcoming games that are likely to be released, despite lacking official announcements. Some of these titles have been heavily suggested, with hints possibly dropped by those in the know, yet formal declarations from the studios are still pending.
7) Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4
Kick things off effortlessly: It’s a given that “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4” is all but confirmed and is expected to drop in the year 2026. Among all the Call of Duty sub-franchises, the Modern Warfare series stands out as the most favored, with its storyline left unresolved at the end of “Modern Warfare III”. Despite the original trilogy coming to an end, Infinity Ward appears determined to continue producing them as long as audiences remain engaged and supportive.
The feud between Captain Price and Makarov continues since Soap’s demise, but unlike the initial trilogy, Ghost has miraculously survived. Considering the deep affection fans have for Ghost and their disappointment at his premature death, it seems Infinity Ward plans to keep him alive across multiple games. Whispers suggest that Modern Warfare 4 may delve into North Korea’s role on a significant scale, with Makarov manipulating events to trigger World War III. We might get more details about this game next summer.
6) Marvel’s Spider-Man 3
The Spider-Man series developed by Insomniac Games is a highly acclaimed franchise on PlayStation consoles. These action-packed superhero games allow players to navigate New York City as Spider-Man, swinging and gliding through the city while battling villains. The narratives are heartfelt, the action sequences are grandiose, and they provide an engaging gameplay experience. In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, fans were introduced to a potential sequel, Marvel’s Spider-Man 3, which may introduce characters like Silk, Doc Ock’s return, and the long-awaited debut of the Green Goblin. While some actors have hinted at Marvel’s Spider-Man 3, an official announcement has yet to be made by Insomniac or PlayStation.
5) Uncharted 5
The Uncharted series marked the beginning of PlayStation exclusives characterized by cinematic quality, thanks to Naughty Dog’s movie-like game design. For nearly a decade, these action/adventure games were among the top-notch. Although the main storyline of Nathan Drake ended with Uncharted 4, there’s an enduring fondness for sequels that continue established franchises.
It’s common knowledge that Bend Studio began working on a new Uncharted title at the start of the decade, but this project was ultimately cancelled. This suggests that PlayStation may have wanted to continue the franchise even without Naughty Dog spearheading it. However, there’s another Uncharted game in development at Naughty Dog that isn’t titled Intergalactic. Many believe this upcoming game could be helmed by Nathan Drake’s daughter, Cassie. It appears likely that another Uncharted game will materialize at some point, but the exact timing remains unclear.
4) Assassin’s Creed 4 Remake
Some enthusiasts have been anticipating an updated version of the popular game Assassin’s Creed, yet Ubisoft seems to be taking a different approach by planning a remake of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag instead. Given its high acclaim among Assassin’s Creed games, this decision isn’t entirely unexpected. However, it’s worth noting that Black Flag is already playable on current platforms without a remake. As for what the remake might entail, no details have been revealed as of yet.
It’s hinted by Matt Ryan, who portrays Edward Kenway in Assassin’s Creed 4, that a remake might be on the horizon based on his teases at conventions. Given that this project has been in development for several years, it appears possible that we could see its release within the next year if everything goes according to plan.
3) Halo: Combat Evolved Remake
Another remake that gamers are eagerly awaiting is Halo: Combat Evolved. There’s been hinting that Halo might have a fresh release next year, and it’s being speculated as a remake of the original game. Given that next year marks the 25th anniversary of both Xbox and Halo, it seems fitting to commemorate with a remake of the game that set the stage for everything else. It’s also thought that this could serve as a trial run for Halo Studios, which has recently shifted towards Unreal Engine 5 after years of developing their own in-house engine. Having a pre-existing game structure makes learning a new engine significantly easier.
2) The Last of Us Part 3
It appears that The Last of Us Part 3 is likely to be developed, despite some initial uncertainty. Although Neil Druckmann’s remarks previously led fans to question its existence, his subsequent comments have been more encouraging. While Intergalactic seems to be their primary project at the moment, it would come as a surprise if they didn’t conclude this popular franchise with a final installment that neatly wraps up all loose ends. The Last of Us is one of PlayStation’s most successful series and has also given rise to a profitable adaptation.
Despite Ellie’s story not necessarily continuing in the next game (but I believe it might), there’s a strong chance that The Last of Us series will endure in some form. The cancellation of the multiplayer spin-off, Last of Us Online, would have helped bridge the gap between games, but its absence now leaves us with a bit of a void.
1) Half-Life 3
It’s been circulating that there’s some truth to the long-standing speculation about the upcoming release of Half-Life 3. According to rumors, Valve has reportedly been developing this game for quite a while and might be planning to unveil it, possibly even during this holiday season. The fact that Valve took the unusual step of rewriting the ending of Half-Life: Alyx in a way that seems to hint at a continuation of Gordon Freeman’s story lends credence to these rumors.
Dangling another suspenseful plot point without following through could be seen as unscrupulous, especially if there’s evidence that they might be planning to release the long-awaited “Half-Life 3”. Many rumors hint towards this possibility. It’s a blemish on Valve’s reputation that they seem eager to rectify, and I’d put good money on them delivering soon.
