The animated series X-Men ’97 enjoyed success on Disney+, showing that many animation enthusiasts were eager to revisit Marvel’s band of mutants. Although each mutant underwent significant transformations in the revival of the series, Logan remains precariously situated due to the events unfolding in the first season finale of the current series. With a second season on the horizon, we spoke with Cal Dodd, the original voice actor for Wolverine, who discusses future developments and how his character copes with the loss of his adamantium skeleton.
In the 1993 comic book storyline “X-Men: Fatal Attractions,” the master of magnetism removed Wolverine’s adamantium from his skeleton, which made for a tough few years as he faced both old and new adversaries. Since then, Logan’s skeleton is no longer unbreakable and his claws are just bones. This period in the Marvel Comics is one of his weakest. However, when asked about this change during a recent interview at Dragon Con, the voice actor for Wolverine said that it wouldn’t be too much of a challenge for him: “Logan just adapts. He takes whatever happens and says, ‘Is that all you’ve got?’
Wolverine Won’t Stay Down For Long
In a similar vein to X-Men ’97’s animated series, we’re picking up where we last left off for season 2 of Rogue. Time has passed, whether it be weeks or months, yet our characters remain the same as they were before. As life often does with its twists and turns, significant events can stir strong emotions, but you’ll have to tune in for season 2 to see how things unfold for Sugah.
Dodd revealed some unexpected insights about a request made by the showrunners of X-Men ’97 for his return as Wolverine – to incorporate swear words. However, Cal declined this offer for Logan to use profanity, arguing that the iconic X-Man character didn’t need cursing to demonstrate his toughness. He further explained that in the original series, there was no swearing or on-screen violence, and he didn’t think it necessary to resort to foul language when he could still express disdain by calling people “a contemptible lowlife.
In our last encounter, Logan was on the brink of death, having traveled through time with the X-Men after their battle against Magneto in the finale of the previous season. With various plotlines suggested for the upcoming season, such as Apocalypse’s return, Gambit potentially coming back to life, Scott and Jean raising Nathan in a bleak future, and others, fans are eagerly anticipating how Logan’s current state will unfold within this intriguing narrative.
