There’s a sense of transformation surrounding Call the Midwife currently, as the series is broadening its scope on BBC One.
In addition to two more holiday episodes and a fifteenth season, plans include a movie and a spin-off TV series. Characters from the program may be featured in the movie, which is slated for release in a foreign location during 1972.
It turns out that this palpable feeling of transformation hasn’t gone unnoticed only by the enthusiastic audience, but also by the creators themselves, as indicated by Patrick Turner, speaking on behalf of actor Stephen McGann.
He stated that, with its 15-year run, the show is far from being new, and they always acknowledge the significant role of the viewers.
Afterwards, McGann hinted at the future developments of the beloved drama, expressing, “A lot of changes are on the horizon. The past couple of seasons of Call the Midwife have subtly suggested change, and it’s about to become quite tangible, without revealing any specific plot points, things are going to get quite authentic. There are some significant shifts coming up that will feel very real.
He mentioned that the recent script for the show contains typical moments reminiscent of “Call the Midwife,” but the latest scene has left him and the cast feeling shocked or dazed.
In simpler terms, McGann mentioned the show’s future direction, stating, “We’ve explored travel before, but things will change and take on a new form. Who knows what we might encounter next? Even we’ll be surprised!
Previously, it was hinted that Call the Midwife might be receiving a new prequel series and a movie, meanwhile implying that the initial series might conclude following its upcoming 15th season.
Contrarily, the BBC swiftly dismissed such speculations, reassuring viewers that the series “will not be leaving us anytime soon” and affirming plans for a 16th season at an appropriate time.
