Previously, designer Nate Fox (who was part of the Sly Cooper team) indicated that Sucker Punch Productions shows little enthusiasm for revisiting the renowned PlayStation series, Sly Cooper. Despite the acclaim garnered by Sucker Punch’s productions like Ghost of Tsushima and the Infamous series in recent years, fans have persistently wished for a return to Sly Cooper. However, it seems their dreams may not come true as Fox recently reiterated that the team at Sucker Punch has minimal interest in creating a new Sly Cooper game.
During an interview with MinnMax, Fox – co-director of the upcoming “Ghost of Yotei”, revealed that approximately 10% of Sucker Punch’s current team would be excited about the possibility of working on a new Sly Cooper project if it were their next venture. This is because most of Sucker Punch’s recent hires have been drawn to the studio for the opportunity to work on titles like Infamous or Ghost of Tsushima, given that it has been over 15 years since the studio last produced a Sly Cooper game (2005’s “Sly Cooper 3: Honor Among Thieves”).
Sly Cooper’s Future at PlayStation

Regardless of Sucker Punch’s decision not to produce a fresh Sly Cooper game, Sony shouldn’t allow the franchise to gather dust. In truth, the latest installment in the series, Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, was produced by Sanzaru Games and appeared on PS3 in 2013. Although it didn’t garner as much praise as the initial three games, Thieves in Time still resonated with fans and left a significant cliffhanger unresolved. Regrettably, no new addition has been released since then.
Although Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time demonstrated that Sucker Punch isn’t the sole studio capable of working on the franchise, it’s high time for PlayStation to consider collaborating with another studio, either from within PlayStation Studios or outside of it, to develop a new Sly Cooper game. Given the recent resurgence of platformer games, as exemplified by titles such as Astro Bot and Donkey Kong Bananza, there appears to be a strong appetite among audiences for such games. While a new Sly Cooper title may not revolutionize the gaming industry, it would likely prove to be a more worthwhile investment of PlayStation’s resources than some of their live-service projects from the last few years.
