Battlefield 6’s Battle Royale Gets First Details Ahead of Playtest

The initial details for the battle royale mode in Battlefield 6 have been revealed before a planned playtest. Battle royale, a gaming genre that’s been around for approximately ten years, gained significant popularity with games like PUBG and Fortnite starting in 2017. However, it actually started as mods for games such as Arma. At the time, it was a groundbreaking idea and since then, almost every shooter game franchise (except Halo strangely enough) has attempted to create their version of a battle royale game. The genre has become quite competitive now, but there’s still interest in fresh competitors joining the scene.

After all, the anticipated Battlefield 6 hinted at its long-speculated battle royale feature in July, sparking great enthusiasm among gamers. The preview was concise, featuring a ring of fire encircling an area resembling Los Angeles. Since then, leaks have unveiled the extensive map for Battlefield 6’s battle royale, hinting that destruction will be crucial in this mode. This is Battlefield’s second attempt at a battle royale, following its first attempt in Battlefield V. Battlefield 2042 also introduced an extraction mode, reminiscent of a battle royale, called Hazard Zone. However, neither of these modes left a significant impact on fans.

Battlefield 6‘s Battle Royale Will Have 100 Players, Vehicles, and More

According to recent announcements from Battlefield Studios, players will get a chance to test out the battle royale mode for Battlefield 6 starting this weekend, via Battlefield Labs. This testing phase will give gamers an early look at the mode, which is slated to launch in the game post-release. Although specifics about whether the battle royale will be free or not have yet to be confirmed, whispers hint that it may indeed be a free-to-play experience. Additionally, Battlefield Studios shared some initial insights into the battle royale mode for the first time ever.

In the preliminary phase of Battlefield 6, each battle royale match involves 100 players divided into 25 teams of four. However, this arrangement might change in the final version. Players can operate various vehicles scattered across the map, as well as acquire armored vehicles that could potentially shift the course of combat. Notably, the deadly boundary in Battlefield 6‘s battle royale will be the deadliest ever, instantly killing anyone who comes into contact with it. This means you can’t go beyond its boundaries without your character perishing. The circle doesn’t offer any tactical advantages or ways to leverage it; instead, it is designed solely to propel players towards conflict.

In the upcoming game Battlefield 6, players are given the freedom to bring their chosen class into the battle royale setting. During gameplay, equipment such as ammunition resupply and other useful gadgets are available. The developers, Battlefield Studios, will analyze how these classes and gadgets are utilized during playtests to ensure a balanced gaming experience.

In addition, this battle royale mode offers in-match missions that reward players with advantages like redeployments for fallen teammates, superior weapons, “vehicle keys” presumably for tanks or other armored vehicles, and even the ability to call in air strikes.

In essence, it appears that the essential Battlefield gameplay remains intact in Battlefield 6’s battle royale mode. Features like class-based play, vehicles, environmental destruction, and large-scale combat are all incorporated into this battle royale experience. Despite the NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement) restrictions, there have been instances of gameplay leaks in the past. Given this history, it’s likely that some gameplay might leak this weekend.
