The fifth season of the television series Shakespeare & Hathaway: Private Investigators has officially announced its release date, which is set for later this month.
The upcoming series, jointly commissioned by the BBC and UKTV, is set to make its exclusive debut on Alibi on September 24th, at 8 PM. Later, it will also be available on BBC and iPlayer.
Private Investigators is a show produced by Paul Matthew Thompson and Jude Tindall. It features Mark Benton and Jo Joyner portraying two unconventional private investigators working in the historic town of Stratford-upon-Avon, where they tackle various cases on its cobblestone streets.
The show, featuring Patrick Walshe McBride as reliable sidekick Sebastian, has garnered significant audience interest throughout its run, consistently achieving success within the BBC’s daily lineup of programs.
Last year, approval for Season 5 was granted, and BBC Daytime commissioner Helen Munson expressed her joy at the time by saying: “I’m thrilled that Shakespeare & Hathaway have returned! Get ready for more murder mysteries, more suspenseful intrigue, and of course, plenty of humor in season 5. Lu and Frank will continue to solve crimes in picturesque Stratford-upon-Avon.

As a devoted advocate for quality television content, I, Claire Hookway – the Commissioning Executive for Drama at UKTV – am thrilled to express that our audience has a particular fondness for the unique blend of humor, crime, and mystery presented in Shakespeare & Hathaway: Private Investigators.
We’re excited to bring more exciting escapades of this beloved duo, Lu and Frank, to you first on Alibi! We can’t wait to enjoy their company again as they tackle new, intricate, and suspenseful mysteries.
Joyner expresses his enthusiasm by saying: “I’m thrilled to return to the colorful and cushy shoes of Luella! Our dedicated and intelligent fans have been consistently inquiring about our comeback, so it’s delightful to be able to confirm that we will indeed be back! I can hardly contain my excitement to watch Lu, Frank, and Sebastian solve more mysteries in the countryside while playfully bickering in series 5.
Benton expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “It’s fantastic to be back working on the show! The response was extraordinary, and we’re aiming to make series five even more outstanding. I can hardly wait!
