Round Up: Borderlands 4 Reviews All on PC, No PS5 Verdicts Anywhere

In approximately the next 24 hours, Borderlands 4 will be accessible on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and personal computers. To determine if it lives up to expectations, we’ve compiled a variety of reviews. As previously mentioned in our article “Where’s Our Borderlands 4 PS5 Review“, prior to its launch, only pre-release codes were provided for the PC version.

We’ll get our PlayStation 5 access keys tomorrow, kicking off our coverage from then. At this point, we can draw insights from our collection of PC-centric reviews since PS5 technical performance isn’t under scrutiny here. Currently, the game boasts a Metacritic rating of 84, making it one of the highest-rated titles in the series overall.

Radio Times – 5/5

Occasionally, a game doesn’t necessitate being profound or intellectually stimulating all the time; what it truly needs is to be an exhilarating, enjoyable experience. And let me tell you, Borderlands 4 has given me one of the most thrilling gaming experiences I’ve had in ages.

Game Informer – 8.5/10

While keeping much of its fundamental elements, Gearbox has meticulously polished and rearranged them to elevate Borderlands 4 above any previous achievements in the series, creating a frenzied looter-shooter that truly embodies the esteemed early-2010s reputation of the franchise. It’s both an emblem of overindulgence and self-control, which might seem contradictory, but for a series known for straddling opposing ideas, it fits perfectly.

IGN – 8/10

In simpler terms, Borderlands 4 delivers an invigorating boost to the franchise, offering a captivating open world and significantly enhanced combat mechanics. However, occasional glitches or unseen barriers might disrupt the enjoyable flow of gameplay.

GamesRadar – 8/10

In simpler terms, Borderlands 4 builds its entire game around a thrilling final showdown, offering a vast array of weapons for maximum destruction. Although the game’s narrative and tone might not always reach those high notes, the sheer joy of blasting six robots out of the sky with an electrically charged explosive gun often overshadows any shortcomings.

VGC – 4/5

Borderlands 4 is an excellent blend of role-playing and shooting games that offers engaging gameplay. However, certain aspects like the dull new characters and unnecessary grappling hook slightly diminish its appeal. Despite this, the sheer enjoyment we’ve derived from playing the game is significant. This game brings back fond memories of the original Borderlands games and learns from the mistakes made in the third one.

GameSpot – 7/10

If you’re searching for a gaming experience packed with loot collection, character building, and anarchic fun, then Borderlands 4 is just the ticket! It boasts the most refined mechanics among all Borderlands games so far, and each Vault Hunter offers a unique spin on how you can play through the game. However, to keep yourself engaged during the shooting and looting intervals, I’d recommend checking out some interesting podcasts or video essays. Unfortunately, the story and characters in the game aren’t particularly captivating on their own, and after encountering all types of enemies, the combat can start feeling repetitive.
