Bad Bunny had to make a tough decision in a politically charged landscape.
The artist who goes by “DtMF” didn’t decide casually not to appear on stage during his upcoming “Debí Tirar Más Fotos” World Tour in the United States.
Bad Bunny clarified to i-D Magazine during a September 10th interview that his absence from the U.S. wasn’t driven by hatred, as he has performed there numerous times before. However, he expressed worry over the possibility of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) being present at one of his concerts, which was a matter we were discussing and found troubling.
The Grammy-winning artist pointed out that, having played 30 shows at his Puerto Rico residency from July to September, American fans can continue dancing to his award-winning tunes before he sets off on his global tour.
In Puerto Rico, serving as an unincorporated U.S. territory, Bad Bunny (whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio) noted that American citizens can visit to watch his shows. Additionally, Latinos and Puerto Ricans living in the United States are able to travel here, or anywhere around the world.
The 31-year-old has a lineup of 57 shows from November 2026 to July 2027, spanning countries like Costa Rica, Mexico, Portugal, England, Australia, Colombia, Poland, and others. However, none of these concerts will be held in the U.S. Still, he’ll forever cherish his past performances.
He underscored that each of the programs has thrived, and he couldn’t help but admire their greatness. Additionally, it has been a pleasure for him to interact with Latinos residing in the U.S.
Bad Bunny also noted that seeing his show in Puerto Rico is “a whole experience.”
The Reggaeton artist shows no signs of backing down from his political views, even with his fame shining brightly around him.
In simpler terms, as he shared with Rolling Stone in July, people are accustomed to artists becoming popular while avoiding open discussions about such matters, or if they do speak up, they tread very cautiously. However, he plans to speak openly on these topics, and those who dislike it can choose to not listen to him.
As a 30-year-old lifestyle enthusiast hailing from Puerto Rico, my entire professional journey has been an authentic reflection of who I am. My music, in turn, mirrors that essence. It’s a melody of heartbreak, the rhythm of perreo, and the beat of social issues – emotions and experiences shared by many. I am not just a musician; I am a voice for the people, channeling our collective spirit into melodies that resonate deeply with my audience.
