Renowned gaming journalists have hinted at the development of a new “Batman: Arkham” title, given the poor reception of “Suicide Squad”, it seems fitting for Rocksteady to return to excelling in creating iconic Batman games.

This upcoming Batman game from Rocksteady represents a crucial moment for the studio. They can’t risk another disappointment, or they might face closure, considering the number of first-party studios Warner Bros. has closed down in 2025. To make this new Batman: Arkham game successful, it needs to be something extraordinary. It should incorporate elements that fans have been yearning for and those that were missing in previous Batman games. Given that the Arkham series is nearly two decades old, the list of desired features has grown considerably. Here’s what we believe is essential for this new Batman game to thrive.

The new Batman game from Rocksteady is a big deal for the studio because they can’t afford another flop, given the number of studios Warner Bros. has closed down in 2025. To make it a hit, the game needs to be exceptional and offer features that fans have been hoping for but haven’t seen in previous Batman games. Since the Arkham series has been around for almost two decades, there are many desired features on the wishlist. Here’s what we think is necessary for the new game to succeed.

1. The Nemesis System

As a dedicated fan, I’d like to share that Monolith Productions revolutionized my gaming experience with the introduction of the Nemesis System in both “Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor” and its sequel, “Shadow of War.” This innovative system breathed life into non-player characters (NPCs), allowing them to remember their interactions with me and make dynamic choices.

In this fantastical world, even my enemies could become friends, aiding me in defeating other opponents by betraying their comrades. However, the tables could turn at any moment as my allies might suddenly switch sides, becoming adversaries instead. This unpredictability kept me on my toes and made every encounter feel unique and thrilling!

The idea of the Nemesis System was incredibly intriguing, as demonstrated by the Middle-earth games that showcased its vast potential. Regrettably, Warner Bros. Entertainment patented this system and subsequently closed down Monolith Productions. Since 2017, the Nemesis System has remained dormant within Warner Bros.’ possession. It’s hoped that Rocksteady may consider incorporating it into their Batman game in the future.

In simpler terms, the Nemesis System could effectively address Gotham’s street crimes. This system allows for criminals to potentially be reformed or become allies, and it has a history of interactions with Batman. The Nemesis System holds great promise; it’s just that Warner Bros. Games should consider utilizing it more extensively.

2. Drivable Batmobile, Batbike, and Batwing

In the game Batman: Arkham Knight, the iconic vehicle was the Batmobile, while Gotham Knights featured the Batbike. It’s high time that not only the Batmobile but also the Batwing and perhaps even the Batcycle are incorporated into a new Batman game. As for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, it boasted a large map, and given Rocksteady’s history, the next game might even have an expansive map to explore. Given these trends, it seems ideal to include various transportation options for Batman within a single game at this point in time.

Rocksteady has successfully designed the Batmobile, a vehicle that’s both robust and adaptable. It’s capable of engaging in combat against drones and other mechanical beasts. Introducing a Batbike and Batwing would broaden the gameplay experience. These new additions could lead to high-speed pursuits on highways, with Batman employing weapons on his bike to chase enemies, while the Batwing could zip through the city quickly or engage airborne enemy vehicles.

Expanding the ways to navigate Gotham City brings in a whole lot of excitement for both combat and exploration, not to mention that incorporating the Batwing seems a logical progression given that we’ve previously witnessed the Batmobile and Batbike in use.

3. Tough and Unique Boss Fights Like The Ones In Arkham Origins

The collective fanbase of Batman video games widely believes that the Arkhamverse struggles with designing engaging boss fights, excluding the game Batman: Arkham Origins. Unlike its counterparts,

In their upcoming Batman game, Rocksteady needs to improve the disappointing boss battles. It’s definitely possible, as numerous games with comparable combat mechanics have successfully addressed this issue, particularly Insomniac’s Spider-Man series. Introducing villains like Gorilla Grodd or Bane into the game would be beneficial since they are physically imposing adversaries that can challenge Batman in hand-to-hand combat. Well-designed boss fights are crucial for a game’s success, so here’s to hoping Rocksteady recognizes this important aspect in their latest creation.

4. More Than One Protagonist

Regardless if Rocksteady’s rumored Batman game is a continuation of the Arkhamverse or a fresh start, it should feature multiple main characters. Previous _Batman: Arkham_ games primarily centered around Batman. While _Batman: Arkham Knight_ did allow for brief play as Nightwing, Robin, Catwoman, and others during side missions, those instances were minimal in the grand scheme of things. The new storyline could benefit from introducing new characters.

It’s been speculated that Rocksteady might be working on an Arkham game with a Batman Beyond theme. If this is true, introducing Batman Beyond as the main character for the new game could be exciting. However, it would also be beneficial to have another character serving as a secondary protagonist in addition to him.

The video game “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2” stands as an outstanding demonstration of how to balance similarities and differences effectively. Characters Miles and Peter, despite sharing the same powers, offer a unique and invigorating gaming experience due to their individual distinctions.

5. A Fully Interactive and Accessible Batcave

In previous games like “Arkham Origins”, players could explore an interactive Batcave within the Arkhamverse, but due to game mechanics, they had to fast travel there instead of roaming freely. Conversely, in “Batman: Arkham Knight”, The Clock Tower served as a temporary headquarters for Bruce Wayne during the game’s events.

In order for the upcoming Batman video game to be truly immersive, it should once more feature an interactive Batcave that can be freely explored. This means no annoying loading screens or fast travel options; instead, players should be able to enter and exit the Batcave smoothly, with entrances conveniently situated near Wayne Manor. With gaming technology advancing at such an incredible pace, it’s not too far-fetched to envision a state-of-the-art Batcave in Rocksteady’s upcoming Batman game. Naturally, this new adventure will boast a larger play area than Arkham Knight. To take things up a notch, they could include Wayne Manor and a covert entrance leading to the secret Batcave nestled away in one corner of the map. Empowering players with the freedom to ride the Batmobile, Batbike, or even summon the Batwing, ensuring seamless entry and exit to this hidden lair would elevate the gaming experience to unprecedented heights.
