As HBO’s forthcoming “Harry Potter” series grows its cast, fans are growing increasingly eager and thrilled to discover who will portray the upcoming live-action version of Voldemort, a role that was memorably played by Academy Award nominee Ralph Fiennes in the successful film series.
Anticipation among fans continues to grow as they discuss the possibility of Cillian Murphy, an Oscar-winning actor best known for his role in Oppenheimer, potentially joining HBO’s upcoming project. This speculation arises following whispers about him possibly portraying the villainous character Lord Voldemort.
What did Cillian Murphy say about his rumored casting in the Harry Potter TV show?
As a devoted cinema enthusiast, in a recent chat on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, when inquisitive minds wondered about whispers of me taking over Voldemort’s reign, I swiftly dismissed such speculations by admitting that I honestly haven’t a clue about it. I can only wish luck to the fortunate soul who lands this challenging role, knowing full well how tough it is to follow in Fiennes’ footsteps and embody an iconic villain like him did.
Murphy confessed that his children occasionally display something related to it, but he’s not well-versed in the subject himself. He further explained that understanding Ralph Fiennes’ work is quite challenging due to the actor’s exceptional talent. In essence, finding someone to replace him seems like a daunting task.
In the upcoming Harry Potter series, Dominic McLaughlin steps into the role of the main character, with Alastair Stout taking on Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton portraying Hermione Granger. Notable additions to this star-studded cast include John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu playing Severus Snape, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, and more. The ensemble also features Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Bel Powley as Petunia Dursley, Daniel Rigby as Vernon Dursley, Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy, Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley, Amos Kitson in the role of Dudley Dursley, Gracie Cochrane as Ginny Weasley, Tristan Harland and Gabriel Harland as Fred and George Weasley respectively, and others.
The HBO version of the story is being developed and overseen by showrunner Francesca Gardiner (known for Killing Eve and Succession), who will also be its director, Mark Mylod. This adaptation promises to remain true to the cherished Harry Potter book series, bringing together an energetic and gifted cast to ignite excitement among a fresh wave of fans. The executive producers are Mark Mylod, J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and veteran Harry Potter franchise producer David Heyman. This production is a collaboration between HBO, Brontë Film and TV, and Warner Bros. Television.
Filming is currently underway just in time for its highly anticipated premiere in 2027.
