Rather swiftly, it’s been announced that the game, “Donkey Kong Bananza,” will soon receive downloadable content (DLC). This was confirmed during Nintendo’s September 12th Direct broadcast. The DLC includes a level modeled after the famous DK Island from “Donkey Kong 64.” The extra content offers some intriguing new modes, with one of them featuring roguelike gameplay. Excitingly, the “DK Island & Emerald Isle” DLC can be purchased starting today.
Donkey Kong’s famous debut can be traced back to “Donkey Kong 64,” a game that remains one of his most celebrated appearances to date. Given the overwhelming acclaim for the game “Bananza” and its nomination for major awards, it comes as no surprise that Nintendo is merging the two most popular periods in Donkey Kong’s history.
Donkey Kong Bananza‘s DLC Switches Things Up
In contrast to the original game of Bananza, this new DLC focuses on distinct elements. While there’s still a bit of gathering and demolition, it also features time-bound gameplay challenges, particularly on Emerald Isle. The Banandium Gold has transformed into emeralds, and Donkey Kong is tasked with setting records for collecting them within a specified period. There are benchmarks to achieve, or else the mode concludes, much like Knockout Mode in Mario Kart World.
I must admit, I was taken aback to learn that Nintendo is releasing paid DLC for “Donkey Kong Bananza” so soon after its launch on July 17th – less than two months have passed! Given the game’s phenomenal success on the Nintendo Switch 2, it makes sense that they’re offering more content. Still, it feels a bit unexpected considering how fresh the release is, and I can’t help but feel excited as a fan of the game!
It appears that this situation may be leading towards the introduction of a new 3D Mario game. Currently, the genre of 3D platforming is primarily ruled by Donkey Kong, although it has achieved great success, it cannot compare to the immense popularity of Nintendo’s main character, Mario. By racing through the DLC content, Nintendo could move past the limitations of Bananza, enabling them to launch another 3D platformer featuring everyone’s favorite plumber, Mario.
Regardless of the decision, this development is crucial for Nintendo as it seems to prolong the popularity of “Bananza.” Skipping a potential 3D Mario on Switch 2 initially appeared to be a calculated risk; however, opting for Donkey Kong instead has proven to be a smart move so far. The release of this DLC underscores the fact that there is a strong desire for additional content and suggests that Nintendo invested substantial effort into crafting an enjoyable experience.
