On January 22, 2026, publisher Koei Tecmo and developer Omega Force are bringing the game “Dynasty Warriors: Origins” to Nintendo Switch 2. Coinciding with this release, all versions of the game will introduce their first major downloadable content (DLC). Although specifics about this DLC have yet to be disclosed, it’s been hinted that it will encompass a substantial scale. For a sneak peek at the game, check out the trailer below.
Origins” is the newest addition to the popular series and presents a fresh take on the historical Three Kingdoms saga from ancient China. As you progress through the game, you’ll find yourself leading battles as an unnamed protagonist. Along your journey, you’ll encounter choices that not only impact the course of China but also influence the colossal armies of adversaries you’ll face in combat.
In “Dynasty Warriors: Origins,” players journey through historical events, starting at the Yellow Turban Rebellion, and continuing until the climactic Battle of Chibi that marks the conclusion of significant battles within the series.
Initially launched in January, the game “Dynasty Warriors: Origins” arrived with a trailer unveiling some extra features players can engage in once they’ve completed the main storyline. These additional options encompass modifying the music that accompanies intense battles and upgrading weapon traits and powers. Additionally, the trailer confirmed the return of Lu Bu as a character within the game.
After its debut, Dynasty Warriors: Origins quickly gained significant popularity, particularly on PC where over 69,000 players played simultaneously shortly after launch. This success positioned the game above its predecessors, Dynasty Warriors 9 and Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires, in terms of popularity. Later, Koei Tecmo announced that over a million copies of Dynasty Warriors: Origins were sold within the first month following its release.
Initially, Koei Tecmo and Omega Force disclosed in August during their celebration for the 25th anniversary of the franchise that they were developing an expansive downloadable content (DLC) for the game “Dynasty Warriors: Origins“. In addition to this DLC, the company also revealed that work on a remastered version of an old “Dynasty Warriors” game had begun.
It’s still unclear which specific Dynasty Warriors game will receive a remaster, but it’s probable that it will be one of the earlier games in the series, starting from Dynasty Warriors 2. The first game is unlikely to be remastered since it was quite different from what the franchise eventually evolved into. Instead, it was a one-on-one fighting game. At the moment, Koei Tecmo is calling the remaster project as “Dynasty Warriors ?“.
