Recently, Borderlands 4 has been released, offering four vault hunters for selection, a familiar setup for those who’ve played earlier installments of the series. Despite the new gameplay adjustments introduced in this latest edition, there are still aspects that resonate with players. In this guide, we will share one build for developing Amon up to level 50, as you progress through the main narrative.
Borderlands 4 – BEST Amon Leveling Build (1 – 50)
Completing the story mode in any Borderlands game isn’t so challenging that you need to meticulously optimize your character build. In fact, due to random loot drops, even the average player can progress quickly enough to reach the endgame without such optimization.
In simpler terms, even if you replicate the top-notch setup globally, you might still find it tough to defeat a single wave of enemies due to lacking a good weapon or the build not matching your gaming style. However, using an ideal setup can somewhat make leveling up a bit smoother, so it’s worth taking notes on it, if nothing else.
Moxsy, one of the early YouTube content creators with access to the game, has shared a build that he developed using a crucible-based method. Since he’s had ample time to experiment and level up, his insights could be particularly valuable. It is important to mention that obtaining gear may require some luck, so we will primarily focus on explaining the skill nodes in this guide as they are more achievable for everyone.
This paraphrased version retains the essential information from the original text while making it more readable and natural sounding.
To provide some perspective on the game’s progress and length, at the moment when this text was written, just 6% of Steam players have managed to defeat the primary significant boss. As time passes, a common strategy or “meta” might develop, but given that updates are still being released to address issues, it’s far too premature to predict. Now, let’s delve into the crucial points in this build you should keep an eye on:
- Get the Lead Out – This increases your reload speed and gets even faster upon triggering a detonation with your abilities.
- Bolt Action – This node will make your guns deal bonus shock damage for a few seconds every time you reload. With a Jakobs shotgun or pistol, you will be dumping ammo and reloading so fast and often that you will be able to take advantage of this if you have one of the two
- Endless War – This augment will make primed enemies take bonus gun damage for each stack that they have. Detonating a primed enemy will also cause a forge axe to spawn and find another target.
- Bellows – This node will increase your gun damage even more whenever you activate your action skill. This is just a good node to have in general as it is a plain damage per second increase.
- Vital Organs – This is a fine alternative to the previous one as it increases your critical hit chance every time you get a kill.
- Searing Cold – This augment makes your frost axe apply freeze, while the flame axe will not pass through enemies. Replace your other augment with this once you unlock it.
- Blast Furnace – With this node, your critical hits with forgedrones or whenever you trigger a detonation will also increase your damage dealt for a few seconds. This can stack multiple times through detonations, so you can get a ton of damage as you get it higher.
- Lightning Rod – Whenever you deal critical hits with your gun, there is a chance to spawn an elemental bolt that deals shock damage. This can trigger once every 8 seconds.
- Impetus – This is found in the red skill tree, and it will increase your shield regeneration rate and movement speed every time you get a kill. Handy if you are using a shotgun build.
- Heavy Plate – This is not necessarily required, but it is probably the best choice in this tree to unlock the next row. It will give you better shield and overshield capacity, which increases your survivability.
- Gut Punch – Although you won’t be quick meleeing too much, this will make your melee damage and ordnance damage apply weakness to enemies, which makes them more vulnerable while also reducing their damage dealt. Your axes help with this.
- Tempered Pyre – This makes you spawn an axe forgedrone upon using your forgeskill. Needed for the next node.
- Twin Tempers – This spawns an extra forgedrone on action skill use, though this one will deal cryo damage.
- Metal Urge – Increases the cooldown rate of your action skill whenever you deal gun damage, which is going to make your axes even more spammable.
- Berserk – Whenever you activate your forgeskill, Amon will go berserk for a few seconds, which makes him immune to slows and increases a lot of his damage stats.
As you progress through levels, focus on these specific skill nodes that I’ve arranged in the order you should unlock them, up until level 50. Regarding items, we won’t delve into them here because they often change significantly as you approach max level and venture into post-story content.
Additionally, feel free to consider switching specialization to different tree options as per the kind of damage you prefer or require in the future. Continue experimenting, and you’ll be able to create a personalized setup that you can effortlessly adapt following the game.
Just like in every Borderlands game, the true hard work begins once you hit the maximum level. If you attempt to grind particular items for your build prior to reaching max level, it’s essentially time you could have spent accumulating EXP by completing quests and contracts instead.
As you delve deeper into gameplay, you’ll gradually discover the build that suits you best. One of the appealing aspects of this series is the thrill of crafting your personalized over-the-top setup!
