Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Movie Cuts Giyu’s Greatest Ever Quote (And Undermines a Key Bond)

Caution: This article discusses spoilers from the Demon Slayer manga!

The first installment of Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle‘s trilogy, now available in the U.S., is creating a significant impact at the box office. This film marks the beginning of the most thrilling chapter in the Demon Slayer series, as each Corps member is separated within the Infinity Castle. The odds are stacked against them, and Muzan has no mercy, intending to eliminate every last Corps member so they won’t be able to oppose him again. Despite this, the Demon Slayers refuse to back down and prepare for a climactic battle against their enemies.

In this revised tale, every individual, regardless of their position, is engaged in a battle against demons which currently tower above anything previously encountered. Among them are the distinguished Hashira and primary personalities such as Giyu Tomioka and Tanjiro Kamado, who crossed paths with Akaza. As hinted in the previews, this battle was highly anticipated for its stunning animation. Regrettably, the production team overlooked a key scene involving one of the beloved Hashira that should not have been omitted.

Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Skips This Heartbreaking Quote From Giyu

Upon learning that Muzan Kibutsuji had entered the Ubuyashiki mansion, it turned out that Giyu and Tanjiro happened to be together at that moment. They promptly made their way to the mansion together, ending up inside the castle concurrently. This serendipitous circumstance enabled Giyu to not only locate Tanjiro but also prevent him from plummeting to his doom. During this encounter with Upper Rank Three, Akaza, they formed an exceptional partnership that stood out as the best team in the entire series.

From my perspective as a bystander, it’s evident that both Giyu and Tanjiro possess unique abilities. Giyu, with his Hashira status and battle acumen honed over years, utilizes the Water Breathing Style. On the other hand, Tanjiro leans on his Sun Breathing Style, a testament to his resilience. In their fight against the demon, they compensate for each other’s weaknesses, taking turns in combat to allow one another breathers. The battle was near flawless, but what followed was unexpected – just before Akaza’s backstory unfolded, the anime omitted Giyu’s emotional scene from Chapter 154, leaving out a heart-wrenching moment from the original manga.

It’s crucial that I carry forward what I’ve been given, so that no more loved ones perish before me. I will do whatever it takes to rescue him – just as I was rescued.

– Giyu Tomioka

At that juncture, Tanjiro had collapsed unconscious from severing Akaza’s head, while Giyu was gravely wounded. Despite his own injuries, Giyu refused to abandon hope and witness Tanjiro’s demise. In the animated series, he challenged Akaza to take his life before taking Tanjiro’s, prompted by a mental image of Koyuki reaching out to him. However, in the comic book, it is revealed that Giyu, even with his wounds, was grappling with past regrets – moments when he failed to save his sister and Sabito from harm.

He’s unwilling to watch his loved ones perish before him once more, so he decides to preserve Tanjiro’s life. This moment underscores not only his commitment to safeguard those dear to him but also his personal growth. Originally a person who seemed to have lost hope, he now shares the same resolve to shield others as his sister and Sabito did.

This Moment Defined Giyu’s and Tanjiro’s Relationship

In the captivating world of “Demon Slayer,” I, Giyu Tomioka, am often seen as a quiet, enigmatic figure, subtly portrayed as a compassionate yet frequently misunderstood ally. My words, though kind-hearted, can sometimes be misconstrued, adding to the layers of mystery that shroud me. I’ve never quite found my place amongst the other Hashira, but beneath this stoic exterior lies a heart that genuinely cares for those around me. This empathy extends not only to the people in my immediate circle but also to Tanjiro Kamado, whom I rescued over two years ago. When I first encountered Tanjiro, he was at his breaking point, and since then, I’ve watched him evolve into a formidable Demon Slayer, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the Hashira.

Throughout Tanjiro’s journey, Giyu was seldom present, yet his supportive presence was undeniably there. He stood by Nezuko and Tanjiro, even risking his own life for them, indicating a bond deeper than mere comradeship. Although he never explicitly stated it, Chapter 154 made it clear that Giyu viewed Tanjiro as more than just a fellow Corps member – he saw him as a relative or friend. In moments of danger, Giyu’s priority wasn’t to vanquish Akaza, but to safeguard the boy lying before him unconsciously. The sentiment was reciprocated by Tanjiro when he shielded Giyu from Akaza’s attack, only to lose consciousness himself.

The unwavering determination not to succumb, prioritizing each other’s safety above all, and their formidable courage were the key factors that allowed them to overcome Upper Rank Three, an opponent thought to be indestructible even after being decapitated. This event also stirred up memories within Akaza and provided Giyu with the tranquility he sought before his demise.
