The Waller series was initially unveiled as part of the DCU’s debut in January 2023, with Viola Davis set to resume her role and writers Christal Henry (Watchmen) and Jeremy Carver (Doom Patrol) involved. Though specific details about the show are scarce, Gunn provided a solid update on the Viola Davis-fronted series after several months of silence, giving fans confidence that Amanda Waller’s tale is still a key part of the DCU’s future.

In response to a fan’s question about rumors suggesting that “the Waller show” was being reworked into a “Checkmate” show, the creator, Gunn, gave a clear and straightforward answer, “Yes”, indicating that the rumor was indeed false.
