A hint about the latest installment in the Ace Combat series was subtly revealed in a message from the developers, signifying the beginning of the franchise’s 30-year milestone festivities.
In 1995, on June 30th, the first game in the series was released in Japan, and today, as we celebrate 30 years, the series brand director Kazutoki Kono takes this opportunity to convey his profound appreciation to all fans and everyone who has been part of the series’ journey. Thank you from the depths of my heart, he says sincerely.
Kono’s message to the fans concludes with a subtle hint about the upcoming game, a project that has been under development by Bandai Namco and ILCA for nearly four years now. He says, “All preparations are complete. Let’s soar aloft again – aiming even higher this time.
It’s been over six years since we last saw a new installment, which was Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown on PS4. This particular game has managed to sell more than 6 million copies, contributing to the overall franchise sales of over 20 million units.
Over the last three decades, things have significantly evolved. Our beliefs and technology have adapted, and our company and team have consistently adapted to these changes, which can be summarized as embracing change, according to Kono. There may have been instances where we fell short of your expectations, but I firmly believe there were also times when we surpassed them – reaching heights far beyond what was expected.
He found: “Over three amazing decades, we’ve managed to adapt and thrive amidst change. This journey has strengthened the bond of trust with you all, a connection that has been instrumental in the longevity and progression of the ACE COMBAT series. I can now sense this truth deeply within me. And I’m filled with pride — proud that our unwavering dedication to providing value and earning your trust has brought us to this 30th anniversary.
In case you want to briefly reacquaint yourself with the series before the upcoming game, Ace Combat 7 is currently on sale for only £6.99 / $9.59 in the PlayStation Store. This deal lasts until 2nd July.
