Although *Borderlands 4* has seen the most successful launch in the series’ history on Steam, many players have reported performance issues. The console versions are particularly affected, with players wishing for options to adjust the field of view and disable motion blur.
Randy Pitchford, the CEO, asked Twitter users if they wanted a field of view (FoV) slider for the console versions of the game. The response was strongly positive, but he hinted that adding it might create balance issues in online play. He said they’re investigating the possibility, noting that player feedback is important to them, but couldn’t share details yet.
Pitchford later explained that people don’t know the full scope of the team’s plans or how a field of view (FOV) slider could impact game balance. He emphasized his commitment to staying true to the original vision for *Borderlands*, wanting to enhance the game rather than fundamentally change it. He hopes their goals will add to the experience, not take away from it.
We still don’t have a date for when players will be able to adjust the field of view (FoV) on consoles, but Gearbox is considering adding the option. It’s unclear if this feature will be available when the game launches on the Nintendo Switch 2 on October 3rd.
Borderlands 4 is now available on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5. It quickly became popular on Steam, reaching almost 289,000 players at the same time over the weekend, although exact sales figures haven’t been released. You can read our review, where we gave it a score of 8 out of 10.

We understand it’s important to you, and we’ll share more information when we can. You can share your thoughts and vote on this topic here:

Just so you know, you aren’t aware of the full scope of our plans and how changing the field of view (FOV) could impact fairness in relation to those plans. However, I’ve always been committed to staying true to the original vision for Borderlands, rather than trying to make it something it’s not. I’m hoping that we can…
