TRON and TRON: Legacy 4K Blu-ray Steelbooks Set To Launch On September 16th

Okay, so this is a little strange. You’d think Disney would have released *TRON* and *TRON: Legacy* on 4K Blu-ray years ago, considering how beloved those films are. But nope! It actually took the announcement of a *third* *TRON* movie, *TRON: Ares*, to finally get them to do it. It’s a bit of a roundabout way to celebrate these classics, but I’m not complaining – finally!

Both *TRON* and *TRON: Legacy* are coming to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray for the very first time on September 16th, and will be available in collectible Steelbook cases. Pre-orders are currently sold out, but more may become available on Amazon and Walmart. They sold out quickly when first offered earlier this month, so if they’re restocked, they likely won’t last long. Keep checking those links! As a huge fan, I was so thrilled to hear that Disney really went all out restoring both *TRON* and *TRON: Legacy*! They digitally scanned and meticulously remastered the original *TRON* with the help of the Walt Disney Film Restoration team, and even had Steven Lisberger, the original director, overseeing the process. It’s fantastic that *TRON: Legacy* received the same treatment – remastered in High Dynamic Range from its original digital files, again with the director, Joseph Kosinski, involved. I’m guessing any special features included will be the classic ones we all know and love.

Disney has announced that both films will be available to rent or buy digitally on platforms like Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home. They’ll feature high-quality Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos sound. The 4K Blu-ray releases of both *TRON* and *TRON: Ares* will also include previously released bonus features.

As a big fan of the TRON universe, I’m excited to hear that if you’re hoping to own the complete trilogy, the 4K Blu-ray of *TRON: Ares* should be released around the same time as its theatrical debut on October 10th.

Joachim Rønning directed *Tron: Ares*, written by Jesse Wigutow, who developed the story with David DiGilio. The movie stars Jared Leto, Jeff Bridges, Gillian Anderson, Cameron Monaghan, and Hasan Minhaj, and features a stunning soundtrack by Nine Inch Nails. *Tron: Ares* is scheduled for release on October 10, 2025.
