New release date windows for some Game of Thrones spin-off shows have been announced.
Game of Thrones, the popular HBO series based on George R.R. Martin’s ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ novels and created by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, concluded in May 2019 after eight seasons. Since then, several spin-off shows have been planned, and ‘House of the Dragon’ is the only one that has premiered, currently completing its second season.
When are the release date windows for the Game of Thrones spin-off shows?
HBO’s Casey Bloys recently told Deadline that the third season of House of the Dragon will likely premiere right after the eligibility cutoff for the 2026 Emmy Awards. Since the cutoff date is May 31st, 2026, fans can expect the new season to arrive around June.
Fans of Game of Thrones will have another series to look forward to: A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is now set to premiere in January 2026. The show was delayed from its original 2025 release and was previously expected in winter 2026, but now we have a confirmed premiere date.
“A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” takes place before the events of “Game of Thrones” and is based on George R.R. Martin’s “Tales of Dunk and Egg” stories. The series, created by Martin and Ira Parker, features Peter Claffey as Dunk and Dexter Sol Ansell as Egg. The cast also includes Finn Bennett as Prince Aerion Targaryen, Bertie Carvel as Prince Baelor Targaryen, Tanzyn Crawford as Tanselle, Daniel Ings as Sir Lyonel Baratheon, and Sam Spruell as Prince Maker Targaryen.
House of the Dragon was created by George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal. The first season debuted in August 2022, and the second season followed in 2024. The series stars Matt Smith as Daemon Targaryen, Emma D’Arcy as Rhaenyra Targaryen, Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower, and a talented ensemble cast.
You can currently watch all episodes of Game of Thrones and the first two seasons of House of the Dragon on HBO Max.
