The animated series *Futurama* is back on Hulu with a new season, and one of its producers is hoping for more seasons and even a new movie. *Futurama* has a unique history of starting and stopping, and it’s been released in many ways over the years – first as a TV show, then as direct-to-video movies, and now as a streaming series. The creators believe the show has plenty of potential for future projects.
The latest season of *Futurama* (Season 13) is now available on Hulu. ComicBook recently spoke with Claudia Katz, a long-time producer on the show, about the new episodes. Katz expressed her desire for the series to continue past its planned Season 14 and also mentioned she’d love to see *Futurama* become a movie, believing the show’s broad scope would translate well to the big screen.
Futurama EP Shares Hopes for a Movie in the Future
I’m so excited to share some good news for all fellow Futurama fans! When someone asked about the possibility of continuing the show, I happily confirmed we’re definitely open to it – we’re in! And you know what? We’ve actually talked about a movie! Because of how expansive the Futurama universe is, a feature film feels like a perfect fit. I’ve seen it myself, and honestly, it *looks amazing* on the big screen! So while I can’t make any promises, I’m giving you a little hope that a Futurama movie might actually happen someday, and I really, really hope it does!
David X. Cohen expressed his satisfaction with the revival of *Futurama*, especially with its new home on Hulu. He feels like returning to the show is a comfortable fit, as many of the original writers, including Matt Groening, and the voice cast are still involved – it’s like reuniting the original team. He also shared that the partnership with Hulu has created a renewed sense of excitement and energy for the show’s production.
Futurama Enters a New Era With Hulu

According to Katz, the current partnership with 20th and Hulu is the most positive yet. He feels they truly understand the show and his team, and are actively collaborating with them. This is a significant improvement over their experience at Fox, where they felt constantly shuffled around and lacked support after the show launched. Everyone involved is excited about where things stand now, and it bodes well for the future of the franchise.
No matter if *Futurama* continues with more episodes or a movie, it’s uniquely suited to handle whatever comes next. The show has successfully adapted to different formats in the past, and a feature film would be a fantastic way to take things even further. What are your thoughts?
