The series *Alien: Earth* has been building to a major turning point. Creator Noah Hawley has expanded the *Alien* universe, revealing a bleak future where Earth is controlled by powerful corporations, introducing terrifying new creatures, and showcasing advanced technology that further threatens humanity. While the show has been popular, some longtime fans have been critical of the changes to established storylines. After the latest episode, those disagreements are expected to become much more heated.
“Emergence” is the second-to-last episode of *Alien: Earth* (or at least season one), so it naturally sets up the main conflict for the final episode. The show has been fairly slow-paced, though, which makes the quick approach to the finale a little concerning. Adding to this, a particular plot twist introduced by the creator, Noah Hawley, is likely to cause a significant split among fans even before the season concludes.
Alien: Earth Has Turned A Xenomorph Into A Key Ally
The *Alien* movies all have one basic principle: the xenomorphs are the villains, and the humans are trying to survive. But the new series, *Alien: Earth*, completely changes that idea-and it’s likely to be controversial.
The show initially built suspense by gradually showing Wendy (Sydney Chandler) learning to connect with the alien creatures, with Boy Kavalier (Samuel Blenkin) secretly pulling the strings. However, Episode 7 takes a dramatic turn when Wendy, realizing she’s been manipulated by the Prodigy corporation, frees her alien. The creature immediately attacks and kills everyone in the lab – scientists, technicians, and later, a team of Weyland-Yutani soldiers. The episode ends with a tense cliffhanger, suggesting the alien will now target a group of Prodigy soldiers as well.
Did Alien: Earth Just Jump The Shark?
This is a significant shift from what made the original *Alien* so effective, and while it’s an interesting change, it’s also a bit troubling. For years, fans have preferred franchise villains to remain mysterious and frightening. Many believe that not knowing too much about a monster or killer actually *increases* the fear. Thankfully, we don’t have to worry about the xenomorphs suddenly becoming chatty, but seeing this iconic, terrifying creature now acting like a pet or hired killer for a character who is still a child is… unsettling. Some fans may find Wendy’s actions to be a breaking point, a flaw in the show’s internal consistency. The idea of a young child controlling an alien monster to harm others is a lot to take in.
It seems like the show has been subtly preparing Wendy’s transformation all along. The series has consistently focused on the hybrid children and how they’re impacted by the messed-up world adults have built. Wendy’s story has been building towards her finding her own power, and Kirsh has been a key influence, encouraging the hybrids to embrace their evolution beyond being human. Wendy has already demonstrated incredible abilities – controlling machines, fighting aliens, and even communicating with them – and now she’s taking control of her own destiny by breaking away from the corporation that controls them all.
I’m really struck by how Wendy connects with Prodigy’s alien creature more than with people – it really highlights what this show is trying to say. The big question now is, will viewers actually *get* that message? And more importantly, can *Alien: Earth* pull it all together in a satisfying finale? I’m honestly on the fence.
