Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Reveals Why Akaza Didn’t Die Despite [Spoiler]

In the movie *Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle*, Akaza surprisingly doesn’t die immediately after losing his head. His fight with Tanjiro and Giyu is considered one of the most exciting and well-remembered scenes. Many viewers have wondered how he continued to fight even after being decapitated. While the movie doesn’t directly explain this, the reason is actually quite straightforward.

Why didn’t Akaza die despite being decapitated in Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle?

The fight between Tanjiro, Giyu (the Water Hashira), and the powerful demon Akaza was incredibly difficult. Akaza’s immense strength pushed both Demon Slayers to their limits, and Giyu was even forced to unlock a special ability, the Demon Slayer Mark, to try and keep up.

Tanjiro figured out that Akaza was incredibly skilled at reading his opponents’ intentions during a fight. Remembering advice from his father, Tanjiro activated a special ability called Transparent World, which allowed him to hide his fighting spirit and evade Akaza’s attacks. He was able to get close enough to strike and seemingly decapitate Akaza, but surprisingly, that wasn’t enough to finish him off.

Akaza, shocked to find his head severed, attempted to reattach it, but Giyu deflected it. This moment transitioned the story into a flashback revealing Akaza’s difficult past.

After his father died by suicide, Akaza was driven to become powerful and seek revenge on those who had wronged him. A martial arts instructor named Keizo took him in, recognizing he was still just a child. After several years, Keizo’s daughter, Koyuki, proposed marriage to Akaza, and he accepted. Tragedy struck when a rival dojo poisoned their water supply, killing both Keizo and Koyuki. In response, Akaza brutally killed 67 people, which caught the attention of Muzan, who then turned him into a demon.

Returning to the fight, Akaza recalled his vow to become stronger and defeat everyone. His intense determination fueled his body, allowing him to continue battling and even begin to heal. Seeing this, Tanjiro desperately lunged forward to finish Akaza with another beheading strike, but his exhausted hands slipped on the sword, and he ended up punching Akaza instead.

The sudden impact broke Akaza’s focus, and he turned his own attacks inward, effectively ending his life. Overwhelmed by memories of Koyuki urging him to surrender and join her in death, he faded away, finally reunited with those he loved.
