The first season of The Summer I Turned Pretty has finished, finally revealing how Belly’s love story ends after weeks of guessing and anticipation.
Jenny Han, the creator and author of the original novels, hinted that the show’s ending would be unexpected, even for those familiar with the books, sparking lots of discussion among fans.
I’m totally hooked on The Summer I Turned Pretty! It’s become one of my favorite shows on Prime Video – it really gets you invested with all the unexpected turns and genuinely touching scenes. I understand why so many people are watching and loving it!
Unfortunately, the popular series won’t be back for another season, even though there was plenty of interest in continuing it. Han has explained the reasons behind this decision.
Here’s what the celebrated writer had to say about this tough goodbye.
Why won’t there be The Summer I Turned Pretty season 4?

The popular show *The Summer I Turned Pretty* has been cancelled and won’t have a fourth season because the show has covered all the storylines from Jenny Han’s books.
In recent interviews, the author shared that Prime Video allowed the coming-of-age drama to end when she felt it had reached a natural conclusion, even though the show was a huge hit. They didn’t push for more episodes or storylines.
“Three books, three seasons: it feels right to me,” she told Entertainment Weekly.
She told the LA Times that her main focus has always been what’s best for the story, and she felt the story reached a natural conclusion after three seasons.
I’m grateful that the team at Prime Video understood my need to have control over the timing and direction of the show. It’s unusual to have that kind of creative freedom when a project is successful and profitable, but staying true to my vision for the story is the most important thing to me.
It looks like the third season of The Summer I Turned Pretty will likely be the show’s last, and it’s creating a lot of buzz online. Fans are especially invested in the central love triangle and are eager to find out who Belly (played by Lola Tung) will ultimately choose.
With ongoing enthusiasm for the show, Han admitted she wouldn’t rule out the possibility of revisiting the story with a prequel, sequel, or spin-off down the line.
She said she’d love to revisit this world with new stories, but only if she finds one she’s truly passionate about. She wants a story compelling enough to dedicate several years of her life to it.
Fans who enjoyed Han’s romantic stories in the *To All The Boys* movies can continue following the adventures in *XO, Kitty* on Netflix. The show has been popular enough to earn a renewal for a third season!
The Summer I Turned Pretty is available to stream on Prime Video.
