Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Still Doesn’t Top the Anime’s True Best Fight

The first film in the *Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle* trilogy is now available globally, and it doesn’t disappoint fans with its lengthy runtime. It kicks off the series’ final arc, pitting the hero, Tanjiro Kamado, against the ultimate enemy, Kibutsuji Muzan. Called *Part 1: Akaza*, the movie centers on a battle with the Upper Moon Rank Three demon, Akaza, but also includes two other significant fights against different powerful demons from the Upper Ranks.

The new Demon Slayer movie features three main battles: Shinobu Kocho fights Doma, revealing he killed her sister Kanae; Zenitsu unexpectedly faces the new Upper Moon Six demon, Kaigaku; and Tanjiro and Giyu team up against Akaza. Despite a large budget, these fights don’t quite reach the level of the previous battle against Gyutaro and Daki, which remains the series’ strongest due to its solid groundwork. (Please be aware this contains major spoilers for the Infinity Castle arc!)

Fights in Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Lack Proper Foundations

Throughout most of *Demon Slayer*, new demons were introduced with detailed backstories and clear motivations within the world. However, the first *Infinity Castle* movie, despite featuring three significant battles (two of which are resolved), doesn’t deliver the same emotional weight as the *Entertainment District* Arc. The *Entertainment District* Arc carefully built up the setting, characters, and villains, emphasizing the importance of defeating Daki, Upper Moon Six, before the action even started.

The movie prioritizes defeating the Upper Rank demons, but some of the fights feel rushed and lack sufficient build-up. Shinobu’s battle with Doma, for example, doesn’t have much backstory beforehand and ends quickly, despite her effort. Zenitsu’s fight with Kaigaku appears suddenly, with the reasons for their conflict only revealed during the battle itself. Though Zenitsu’s new technique and the animation are impressive, the fight is also brief. The final battle against Akaza is visually stunning and emotionally impactful, but the movie’s fast pace doesn’t allow the action to fully develop, leaving viewers feeling somewhat unsettled by how quickly events unfold.

Demon Slayer: Entertainment District’s Final Fight Is Still The Best

The battle against Gyutaro and Daki, the Upper Rank Six demons, in the Entertainment District arc is a thrilling showdown with a complex story and unexpected turns. A key twist is revealed when we learn that Gyutaro and Daki are linked – defeating them both requires beheading them simultaneously. The fight’s intensity is heightened by Gyutaro’s visually striking crimson scythe attacks, which underscore his immense power. What truly sets this battle apart is the large number of characters involved, including the Sound Hashira, Tengen Uzui, his three wives, and the series’ main heroes.

It was such a rollercoaster! We all thought Tanjiro and the others had finally taken down Daki, and it just came down to Uzui finishing off Gyutaro. But then – wow! – a huge twist! Uzui was seriously hurt, losing his hand! Just when things looked completely hopeless, Tanjiro threw everything he had into a desperate headbutt, injecting poison into Gyutaro. Zenitsu was also going all out, trying to behead Daki. But Gyutaro was still too strong for Tanjiro until, out of nowhere, Uzui showed up again! Even with a missing hand and terrible injuries – including a damaged eye – he was still pushing forward, fueled by pure determination. It was incredible!

His powerful shouts fueled the fight, holding back Gyutaro just long enough for Tanjiro to land the final hit. Simultaneously, Zenitsu and Inosuke managed to behead Daki. Even then, the battle wasn’t over; Gyutaro launched one last desperate attack, exploding his body in a flurry of slashes that destroyed everything around him. The episode ended with a quiet scene of falling ash, building tension until the very last moment. This fight was truly exceptional, showcasing Ufotable’s incredible effort – they even added extra scenes to make it even more spectacular.

It’s a shame the fight scenes in the first *Infinity Castle* movie weren’t adapted for the anime. The movie trimmed scenes from the manga, and Ufotable seems to be following that pattern with these adaptations. If the *Infinity Castle* arc had been expanded like the *Hashira Training* arc, the battles – particularly Tanjiro and Giyu against Akaza – could have been even more impressive. We would have seen more of Akaza’s incredible fighting skills and learned more about his tragic past, making it even more impactful for *Demon Slayer* fans.
