The creators of the upcoming *Battlefield 6* have explained why the series moved away from the dynamic environment changes, known as “Levolution,” that were featured in *Battlefield 4*, and whether or not it might return in future installments. *Battlefield 6* aims to deliver the large-scale, immersive shooter experience fans have been hoping for. It’s been over ten years since a modern-day *Battlefield* game was released, and while *Battlefield 2042* was set in the near future, it didn’t resonate well with players. Fortunately, it appears the developers have taken feedback from *Battlefield 2042* to heart and are making significant improvements to regain existing fans and attract new ones.
Many *Battlefield* fans are hoping the next installment, *Battlefield 6*, brings back a feature called Levolution. This allowed players to cause dramatic, map-altering events in *Battlefield 4*, like buildings collapsing or areas flooding – creating exciting, cinematic moments. While later games, such as *Battlefield 2042*, have included similar effects – like an exploding rocket – these aren’t as prominent or central to the game’s marketing as they once were.
Why Battlefield 6 Doesn’t Have As Many Levolution Events

I recently played on the largest map in the new *Battlefield* game and experienced its dynamic elements. The central area is a construction site, and it’s a major hotspot for close-quarters combat. A tall crane dominates the skyline, offering snipers a great view if they can reach the top using a zipline. But beware – the crane can be deliberately collapsed, creating a dramatic event and leaving wreckage on the ground.
So, I’ve played six maps in *Battlefield 6* now, and honestly, this is the *only* one with anything really dynamic happening. It got me thinking about Levolution, so I actually asked producer Jeremy Chubb why they dialed it back and if there’s any chance we might see it make a comeback. I’m really hoping they bring it back, it adds so much to the gameplay!
We really wanted to emphasize realistic and dynamic destruction in this game. The environments aren’t static – they change as you play, forcing you to think tactically and creating opportunities for clever strategies. We want players to experiment with different ways to destroy things in each mode. As for large-scale environmental changes like ‘Levolution,’ we haven’t featured it recently, but we did have some impressive, over-the-top destruction sequences in *2042*, like blowing up rockets, as you may recall, said Chubb.
We aimed for a more realistic and challenging gameplay experience with this game, focusing on strategic thinking and adaptability. This was a conscious decision, and we personally enjoy that kind of complexity. We also included the crane as a fun element, and we’re open to exploring larger-scale features again in future installments.
I pointed out that even after ten years, the skyscraper collapse in the Siege of Shanghai map in *Battlefield 4* is still incredibly impressive – players often pause the game just to watch it. Chubb added that the team recognizes how much these iconic moments mean to players and understands the desire for more experiences like them.
We’re continuing to discuss this, which is really encouraging. We’re working hard to collaborate with our community and understand what they’re looking for, and we’re glad to see people are enjoying it.
The new Battlefield game is coming out on October 10th for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. What are your thoughts? Share them in the comments and join the discussion on the ComicBook Forum!
