2027 promises to be a massive year for superhero films. Marvel will conclude its Multiverse Saga with *Avengers: Secret Wars*, a movie expected to feature a huge battle bringing together all corners of the Marvel Universe, just like the comic book version. Another big event will be *Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse*, which will almost certainly see all the Spider-People uniting against a major threat. However, not every film will be an all-out war; *The Batman Part II* is aiming for a more grounded and subtle approach.
Matt Reeves’ upcoming Batman movie has been kept under wraps for a while because he spent a lot of time perfecting the script. Now that it’s finished, he’s finally sharing details about the story. Here are six new things we know about *The Batman Part II* after a long wait.
6) The Batman Part 2 Is Officially Not Part of the DCU
James Gunn’s new DC Universe is off to a strong start, with the movie *Superman* performing very well in theaters and the show *Peacemaker* receiving positive reviews. This success makes it seem like a natural fit to include Matt Reeves’ Batman universe, especially since the DCU is already establishing its own version of the character. However, Reeves continues to insist that his films exist in a separate reality – an ‘Elseworlds’ timeline – distinct from the world of David Corenswet’s Superman.
5) Sofia Falcone Won’t Be in the Movie
While *The Batman* wasn’t necessarily designed to launch spin-off series, it did lead to *The Penguin*. This HBO show follows the Penguin as he tries to gain control of Gotham’s underworld, but faces significant obstacles. Sofia Falcone, the new leader of the Falcone crime family, seeks revenge for being sent to Arkham Asylum. Though the Penguin tries to secure a future for Sofia, the director, Matt Reeves, doesn’t plan to include her in *The Batman Part II*. So, her fate depends on whether the show gets renewed for another season.
4) Robin Is Fair Game
Because it’s been a while since the last movie, the internet has been full of rumors about who will appear in *The Batman Part II*. A lot of speculation focused on Robin, Batman’s sidekick. While director Matt Reeves didn’t say for sure if Robin will be in the film, he did mention that he and his team have thought about all possibilities.
3) Bruce Wayne/Batman Will Enter New Territory
The first *Batman* film explored Bruce Wayne discovering a different side to his parents’ history. Now, director Matt Reeves wants the sequel to be truly original, aiming for a story that hasn’t been told before. While details are still under wraps, the promise of a new and exciting challenge for Batman is definitely appealing.
2) Matt Reeves Is Bringing in a New Villain
A great Batman movie relies on a strong villain. Director Matt Reeves is searching for a new antagonist without a complicated backstory, given Batman’s own troubled past. Reeves has stated that this villain will be unlike any we’ve seen before in a Batman film. While fans hoping for classic villains like Poison Ivy or Mr. Freeze might be disappointed, this approach fits with Reeves’ creative vision.
1) The Status of The Batman Part 3 Is Up in the Air
From the start, Reeves planned his Batman story as a three-part series. While that suggests a third movie is likely, the director isn’t confirming anything just yet. He’s unsure if *The Batman Part III* will actually happen, so it’s probably safe to say the next film won’t end with a big, unresolved cliffhanger.
The Batman Part II hits theaters on October 1, 2027.
