Square Enix has revealed fresh details and images for *Dragon Quest VII Reimagined*, showcasing the updated graphics, story, gameplay features, characters, and battle mechanics of this revamped turn-based RPG.
Get the details below.
■ About
Get ready for *Dragon Quest VII Reimagined*, launching worldwide on February 5, 2026! This is a beautiful remake of the classic *Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past* from 2000, now rebuilt with a detailed, handcrafted look. The story begins with a group of friends on a peaceful island, and their innocent curiosity quickly leads them into a huge adventure across time. They’ll face dark forces and discover the secrets of their world. Along with the main game, there will be extra downloadable content to improve your experience, and a special Collector’s Edition with exclusive goodies. Keep an eye out for more information about this exciting new version of *Dragon Quest VII*!

■ Visuals
The characters, originally designed by the famous manga artist Akira Toriyama, now look like delightful, handmade 3D figurines. The game’s environments and dungeons are also created with this same handcrafted style, resembling detailed dioramas that beautifully capture the world of *Dragon Quest*.
Dragon Quest VII Reimagined and the new “hand-crafted style.”
As a fan, I’m really loving how they’ve rebuilt the towns and environments! They’re using this amazing CG that feels like looking at a detailed diorama, but it still keeps everything feeling warm and inviting – it’s not all cold and digital, you know?

—The game features dramatic event scenes, also recreated in the distinctive style!

■ Story and Features
What begins as youthful curiosity soon unfolds into an epic adventure to save the world…
On the peaceful island of Estard, a curious young hero and their close friend find pieces of an old tablet. Placing these pieces into a shrine’s pedestal, they’re magically transported to a strange new world. As they find more tablet fragments, the world around them expands. Their search for answers quickly becomes a much larger journey when they uncover dangerous enemies and the shocking truth about their home.
—Collecting the fragments to complete a tablet unlocks the gateway to a new world!

The story follows a group as they journey between different worlds. Every tablet they find reveals a path to a new and thrilling location.
—Many unique events and side stories take place in each world.

We’ve redesigned the user interface with a new tab-based menu, making information much easier to find and use.

If you need a break from the main quest, the game has a lot to offer! You can test your skills in a battle arena against powerful legendary enemies, or try your luck with the classic Lucky Panel minigame. Both are great ways to earn rare items.

■ Characters
The story’s core group of friends all come from Estard Island, a place surrounded by a huge ocean. As they journey between different worlds, they’ll encounter all sorts of people, and some of those they meet will join them on their adventure.
Protagonist (The Player) (voiced by Isaac Rouse in English, XXX in Japanese)

He was a young boy growing up in Pilchard Bay, a small fishing village on Estard Island. While he enjoyed a quiet life helping his father with fishing, he frequently dreamed of the world beyond the ocean.
Kiefer (voiced by Roly Botha in English, XXX in Japanese)

The prince of Estard comes from a family that has ruled the island for generations. He’s naturally curious and takes initiative, often joining the main character on adventures to solve the island’s mysteries.
Maribel (voiced by Becky Wright in English, XXX in Japanese)

Despite often trying to have things her own way, she’s a genuinely kind person deep down. That’s why she’s determined to join her childhood friends, the main character and Kiefer, on their adventure – she won’t let them go without her.
Ruff (voiced by Clare Corbett in English, XXX in Japanese)

This boy is kind and innocent, and he’s always with his wolf companion. He can be a bit naive at times, but he also has strong, natural instincts like an animal.
Aishe (voiced by Amrita Acharia in English, XXX in Japanese)

This young woman, a Roamer deeply connected to the Earth Spirit, is on a mission to revive the Almighty. She’s a skilled swordfighter and a naturally graceful dancer.
Sir Mervyn (voiced by Nicholas Boulton in English, XXX in Japanese)

Once a celebrated hero who battled the Demon King with his god, he remains a master swordsman. He’s a member of the Holy Order of the Almighty and still wields the skills that made him legendary.
■ Battle
The battle system in *Dragon Quest VII Reimagined* is much improved. Both your characters’ spells and abilities, and the monsters themselves, have been updated, making fights more exciting and engaging.
Defeat enemies simply by running past them as you explore! You can quickly take out weaker opponents without getting into a full battle, keeping your adventure flowing smoothly.

Although the game features turn-based battles, you can set up your team’s strategy to allow combat to flow continuously without pausing after each turn. You can also customize how quickly battles play out, and even let the game fight automatically for you.

Throughout the game, you can develop your characters and their companions in different classes, each with its own special spells and skills for fighting. Later in the story, you’ll even be able to switch these classes to customize your team.

Moonlighting lets characters pursue two jobs simultaneously! Each job provides unique spells, skills, and attributes, and combining them opens up a wider variety of strategic options.

Snatch Victory From the Jaws of Defeat With Unique Vocational Perks!
Every job class has a special ability that characters can use in battle when they become energized. These abilities are very strong and can quickly change the course of a fight when you need them most.
—Only once a character has become fully worked up can they let loose their vocation’s perk.

These benefits vary-some make your attacks stronger, and others help your teammates.

The new Monster Master class has a special ability called “Positive Reinforcement” that lets you summon strong monsters to attack your opponents!
