The series *Wednesday* quickly became a massive hit, establishing itself as a major cultural moment and one of Netflix’s most popular shows. Its first season broke records, becoming the most-watched English-language series on the platform and launching Jenna Ortega to stardom while also introducing *The Addams Family* to a new audience. The second season continued this success, attracting huge numbers of viewers and eventually becoming one of the top 10 most-watched shows in Netflix history, even surpassing *Stranger Things 3* in total views.
Because of its continued popularity, Netflix is quickly building out the world of *Wednesday*. A third season was officially confirmed in July 2025, before the second season even aired, showing how much faith the streaming service has in the show’s future. They’re also working on a spin-off series focusing on the popular character Uncle Fester, with Fred Armisen returning to play the role. However, the almost three-year wait between the first and second seasons – partly caused by general delays in the TV industry – is part of a growing pattern of longer gaps between seasons of popular shows. So, while fans are excited for the next chapter at Nevermore Academy, Jenna Ortega will be starring in several new movies in the meantime.
1) The Gallerist

Ana de Armas is joining Natalie Portman in the upcoming dark comedy, *The Gallerist*, directed by Cathy Yan, who also directed *Birds of Prey*. The movie is a humorous critique of the competitive contemporary art scene, centering on a gallery owner who creates a strange plan: passing off a corpse as a revolutionary art installation at the Art Basel Miami fair.
Although details about their characters haven’t been revealed yet, the casting of Jenna Ortega and Natalie Portman is creating a lot of excitement. Portman is also producing the film, which was co-written by Yan and James Pedersen. Filming finished in early February 2025, and *The Gallerist* is expected to be in theaters in 2026, though an exact release date hasn’t been set.
2) Klara and the Sun

Jenna Ortega will star in the movie adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s popular novel, *Klara and the Sun*. The film, directed by Taika Waititi, is a science fiction story set in a challenging future, and it’s told through the eyes of Klara (played by Ortega), a robot designed to be a companion for teenagers. The story begins when Klara is bought by a mother (Amy Adams) hoping to help her sick daughter, Josie. The film centers on Klara’s efforts to save Josie and learn about human feelings.
The film *Klara and the Sun* features a strong cast including Jenna Ortega, Amy Adams, Natasha Lyonne, Simon Baker, and Steve Buscemi. Dahvi Waller wrote the screenplay, and Kazuo Ishiguro is an executive producer. Filming began in early 2024, and the movie is currently slated for a theatrical release in early 2026.
3) Ghostwriter

Sofia Ortega is joining the cast of *Ghostwriter*, an upcoming fantasy film from director J.J. Abrams. She’ll appear with Glen Powell, Emma Mackey, and Samuel L. Jackson in Abrams’ first movie since 2019. Details about the story are still secret, but it’s believed to be a fantasy adventure drawing inspiration from the 1984 science fiction film *The Last Starfighter*.
The new series *Ghostwriter* began filming in April 2025, with scenes shot in London, Edinburgh, and Glasgow. Currently still being made, it doesn’t have a release date yet. Because of its size and the people involved, *Ghostwriter* is one of Jenna Ortega’s most exciting upcoming projects, and is expected to be in theaters by late 2026.
