We haven’t heard much about Skydance New Media’s game, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, since its release was pushed to early 2026. However, a new gameplay video has surfaced online. Mp1st reports the video comes from someone who worked on the game, and includes screenshots taken between 2022 and 2023.
This video offers a great first look at gameplay from *Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra*. It shows Black Panther fighting many soldiers in a lounge, focusing on close-quarters combat. The video also highlights how players can interact with and destroy the environment as they battle enemies.
The video also gives us a good sense of how the game’s close-quarters combat will work. It appears players will have access to many different attacks and ways to defend themselves, such as dodging.
Keep in mind that this video shows an early version of the game, so it’s a bit rough around the edges. The graphics aren’t final, and you’ll notice some clunky animations. The final version of *Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra* will be much more polished and refined.
More images from early versions of the game have surfaced, showcasing different views of the lounge seen in the recent video. Some screenshots also reveal how the level will look when damaged. Additionally, there are pictures of what appears to be an underground railroad level, potentially focusing on stealth gameplay. One larger level features Black Panther on a balcony, overlooking the city.
Skydance revealed in May that their game, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, would now be released in 2026. This came as a surprise, as voice actor Khary Payton, who voices Black Panther, had previously suggested a possible launch around Christmas 2025. He stated at the time that the team was still working on the game and hoped to release it in 2025, expressing his excitement about a potential holiday release.
Amy Hennig, the project lead and creator of acclaimed adventure games like Legacy of Kain and Uncharted, shared her vision for Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra. In a December 2024 interview, she explained her goal was to push the boundaries of storytelling through the game’s cinematic presentation.
We’re a new game studio aiming to create visually stunning and innovative games. To reach the widest audience, we believe it’s best to start with familiar concepts and present them in a fresh, exciting way, as she explained.
Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is being developed for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
