Koyoharu Gotouge’s popular manga and anime series, Demon Slayer, has captivated audiences with its compelling characters – both heroes and villains. The first movie in a three-part saga, the Infinity Castle arc, has recently been released and is breaking box office records worldwide. This arc marks the beginning of the ultimate battle between the Demon Slayer Corps and the demons, a long night of fighting that will decide the victor. With Muzan Kibutsuji, the original demon, having located the Corps’ headquarters, he intends to destroy them completely. While the final battle is full of thrilling action, it’s also deeply emotional.
Since Tanjiro’s initial trials, the series has shown us many demons who were tragically turned against their will, victims of Muzan’s power. Even some demons who willingly accepted his help, like Akaza, Gyutaro, Daki, Doma, and Kokushibo, have become fan favorites despite their actions. However, while *Demon Slayer* has memorable villains, many others are easily forgotten. These less impactful villains may play a role in the plot, but they rarely leave a lasting impression or earn the audience’s sympathy.
Warning: This article contains spoilers from the Demon Slayer manga!
5) Muzan Kibutsuji

Muzan’s inclusion on this list might be surprising, but it fits when you consider how easily he’s outshone by his own Upper Rank demons – those he considers inferior. He often feels like a flat, one-note villain, driven only by the desire for immortality. What’s most disappointing is that the supposedly strongest being alive is incredibly cowardly. He even tried to flee from the Demon Slayers during the climax of the story, which severely damaged his reputation as a final boss.
4) Hantengu

Hantengu, ranked as Upper Rank Four, possessed a genuinely difficult ability, justifying his position. However, his actual personality was so disappointing that he was hard to watch. His past revealed him to be cowardly and deceitful, which was truly unpleasant. Upper Rank Demons are expected to be imposing, even frightening to powerful Hashira like Akaza and Gyutaro. But Hantengu spent more time crying and fleeing, relying on his clones to do the fighting, making him ultimately unremarkable and forgettable.
3) Enmu

Enmu, a lower-ranking demon, was the primary villain in the Infinity Train Arc. He managed to survive being wiped out with the other lower ranks because Muzan Kibutsuji found him interesting. However, he was quickly eclipsed by Akaza, a much more powerful demon, who briefly appeared and killed Kyojuro Rengoku, the Flame Hashira. Beyond Akaza’s presence, Enmu isn’t a particularly memorable villain. While his desire to climb the ranks of the Twelve Kizuki suits his personality, it doesn’t make for a very compelling story, and his backstory doesn’t leave a strong impression.
2) Gyokko

Gyokko had the potential to be a truly compelling villain, but the story didn’t quite delve deep enough into his character. His frightening appearance and unique artistic focus clearly distinguished him from other demons. It’s particularly ironic, given the fanbook’s revelation that he preyed on children, that he was ultimately defeated by the young Mist Hashira, Muichiro Tokito, who was only fourteen years old. Sadly, everything we learn about Gyokko remains superficial, preventing him from becoming a truly memorable character.
1) Kaigaku

It’s hard to imagine Kaigaku having many supporters, and it wasn’t simply because he was a demon. He was fundamentally a cruel person. Many people cared for him, but he willingly hurt them to get what he wanted. After being expelled from the temple, he betrayed those he’d grown up with by leading a demon to their location. Later, Jigoro Kuwajima took him in and taught him Thunder Breathing, training him to be a Demon Slayer. Jigoro even considered Kaigaku and Zenitsu as equals, wanting them both to be his successors – a great honor for any Demon Slayer. But instead of appreciating Jigoro’s generosity, Kaigaku chose to become a demon himself. Even with his memories intact, his inherently malicious nature remained unchanged, proving just how deeply flawed he always was.
