Appearing in a CW superhero show (like those in the ‘Arrowverse’) has some advantages. Because these shows can’t use major heroes like Batman or Wonder Woman, they focus on developing lesser-known characters, giving them a chance to shine. ‘Green Arrow’ especially benefited from this, as it’s difficult to picture that character leading a superhero team anywhere else. However, the Arrowverse isn’t perfect; it’s made mistakes, sometimes mishandling popular stories or getting overly caught up in drama.
One common issue with the Arrowverse shows is that they often overlook characters who could be really interesting. While it’s true these shows have a lot of characters to manage, that doesn’t excuse sidelining so many promising ones. Here are seven DC characters from the Arrowverse who deserve more attention.
7) Ragman

In Season 5 of *Arrow*, Oliver Queen reluctantly brings new heroes onto his team. While most rely on weapons or technology, Rory Regan stands out. He discovers a unique, powerful set of rags which he transforms into a superhero suit, becoming Ragman. He quickly establishes himself as Team Arrow’s strongest member. Though his time fighting crime is cut short by an encounter with a nuclear threat, Ragman’s contributions are certainly noteworthy.
6) Patty Spivot

Barry Allen and Iris West have a complicated relationship, which creates opportunities for other characters to pursue romantic connections with The Flash. Detective Patty Spivot attempts to build a relationship with Barry, but they consistently face obstacles. The main problem is Barry’s reluctance to reveal his superhero identity, as he worries about putting Patty in danger. This is ultimately unfair to Patty, who is both a good partner for Barry and a capable police officer.
5) Ava Sharpe

The Legends, a team who travel through time to fix historical problems, find their adventures complicated by the Time Bureau. At first, the Bureau tries to shut them down, but everything changes when Ava Sharpe becomes the new leader. She joins the Legends and develops a close relationship with Sara Lance – a pairing that deserves more recognition as one of the strongest in the Arrowverse. Throughout the series, Ava also comes to terms with her identity as a clone, growing as an individual beyond her romantic life.
4) Speedy

Returning to normal life after being stranded on Lian Yu is a struggle for Oliver, as his experiences have profoundly changed his perspective. Fortunately, he can always count on his sister, Thea, for honest advice. Once she discovers Oliver’s double life, Thea becomes a valuable member of Team Arrow, learning archery and becoming Speedy. Although her time with the team is relatively short-lived, other characters eventually take the spotlight, Thea proves to be one of the best sidekicks ever.
3) Martin Stein

During his time on *The Flash*, Martin Stein showed he was seeking personal growth, and Rip Hunter offered him the chance to achieve it. He convinced his Firestorm partner, Jefferson Jackson, to join him on the Waverider, a decision they both welcomed. Martin then took on the role of a mentor to the Legends, encouraging them to improve. Tragically, he died in a particularly surprising moment within the Arrowverse.
2) Julian Albert

When Barry returns from the alternate timeline in Season 3 of *The Flash*, he finds a new colleague, Julian Albert, has quickly become friends with the team at S.T.A.R. Labs. Barry is initially wary of Julian, and it’s eventually revealed that the villain Savitar is manipulating him. However, Julian isn’t to blame for Savitar’s actions, and everyone grows to like him after Savitar is defeated. Unfortunately, Julian doesn’t stay with the team for long, ultimately becoming a minor character in Barry’s journey.
1) Mon-El

It’s difficult for Supergirl to form connections because she’s one of the few people who knows what it’s like to be completely alone on Earth. When Mon-El arrives, she finally feels she can truly be herself, and his incredible strength is a bonus! He’s a loyal friend and a fantastic hero, but unfortunately, he doesn’t stay for long. He departs in Season 2 and only makes a few brief returns from the future before the series ends.
The Arrowverse shows are streaming on Netflix.
