Having trouble choosing what build to make your player in EA FC 26? You aren’t alone.
With 13 different character classes (Archetypes) and lots of ways to customize each one, getting started can feel overwhelming. This guide will explain each Archetype, giving you everything you need in one place.
How Do You Level Up Your Archetype?
When you start playing Clubs, you get to pick your first Archetype.
Archetypes have levels ranging from 1 to 50 at the game’s launch, with more levels planned for the future. As you increase an Archetype’s level, you’ll unlock additional benefits.
Pick your character’s Archetype thoughtfully, as it can’t be altered once selected, except by adding a new one, which will then develop on its own.
If you’ve already leveled up one character type to its maximum and then start a new one, the new character type will begin at level 1.
You can unlock more Archetypes through Club Coins, FC Points, or special items.
By playing more matches, you earn Archetype XP. The amount you earn depends on 3 things:
- Your Role Rating from the match
- The match type
- Your in-game statistics, like goals and passes, etc.
You can also get Archetype XP from Skill Games weekly, but be aware that there is a cap.
After you fulfill the required attributes, you can choose a specialization. This specialization grants you a unique Signature Perk and a PlayStyle+ that you can add to your Archetype.
Let’s look at each Archetype and its specializations:

Which One Should You Choose?
Ultimately, the choice is yours. However, the game offers plenty of ways to customize your experience and create a play style that suits you.
Choosing a Defender role doesn’t limit you completely – you can adapt them to be more versatile. However, their main job is still to protect the team.
Midfielders primarily focus on building plays and passing the ball, but they can be adapted to play a more attacking and assertive role.
Forwards are responsible for scoring goals, and Goalkeepers protect the net, so these positions don’t allow for a lot of experimentation. However, you can still tailor them to your preferred style. Also, be sure to learn the new dribbling techniques in FC 26 to gain an edge against your rivals.
Figure out what gameplay style suits you best. If you’re not enjoying it, try a different character build. Focus on skillful plays, not frustration!
