The first part of the *Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle* trilogy has arrived in U.S. theaters and is quickly becoming one of the highest-grossing anime films ever. The movie begins after the heartbreaking deaths of the Ubuyashiki family, including their leader, Kagaya. Kagaya was deeply respected by the Demon Corps, especially the Hashira, so his death is a devastating blow. However, they have no time to grieve, as a fierce battle with the demons immediately begins.
Even just the first part of the series has been packed with both incredibly exciting and heartbreaking moments. The creators really went all-in promoting the three major battles, but the film offers many more thrilling scenes that will keep you glued to the screen. Ufotable’s amazing animation and a fantastic soundtrack make the story even more captivating and worthwhile. Please be aware that this article contains spoilers for those reading the Demon Slayer manga!
10) Kokushibo Prepares for Battle

People who only watch the anime might not realize just how strong Kokushibo is, but manga readers definitely know! As Upper Rank One, he’s the second most powerful villain in the series. Even though we didn’t see his full fight in the first part, he immediately stood out with a short appearance. There’s a noticeable difference in power within the Upper Ranks – the top three are significantly stronger than the bottom three.
Both Kokushibo and Doma sensed Akaza’s loss, and Kokushibo was furious. He reacted by drawing his sword, instantly destroying everything around him before anyone could fully understand what was happening. Fans can expect to be surprised by this powerful demon in the upcoming Infinity Castle movies, which will reveal the reasons behind his strength and status.
9) Kanao Fights Doma

It’s devastating for anyone to lose a sibling, but Kanao was particularly heartbroken to witness the deaths of both her adoptive sisters at the hands of the same demon. The Kocho sisters were her main source of strength and support. Before she could even grieve for Shinobu, Kanao had to fight and defeat Doma, one of the strongest demons. She arrived too late to save Shinobu, realizing help couldn’t come in time. Kanao had made significant progress as a Demon Slayer and as a person, and Shinobu was incredibly proud of her growth, especially considering the difficult past Kanao had overcome.
Shinobu gave Kanao a strategy she knew would work against the demon, which is why she made a signal even as she was dying. We only saw a little bit of Kanao’s fight with Doma, but the rest of it will be amazing. This is when we’ll finally see how strong Kanao really is, and understand why everyone at the Butterfly Mansion admires her.
8) The New Master of the Demon Slayer Corps

Kagaya Ubuyashiki’s death devastated the Demon Slayer Corps, as he was like a father to many of them. His entire family – his wife and two daughters – tragically died with him. Even while the demon slayers continue to fight, the surviving members of the Ubuyashiki family are doing everything they can to help. Despite their immense grief, Kiriya Ubuyashiki, Kagaya’s son and heir, is determined to remain strong and not mourn openly until the battle is won.
Even though he’s just eight years old, he quickly became the leader of the Corps, with his sisters fully supporting him. Their primary goal is to defeat Muzan, as that would destroy all demons. They avoid focusing on the stronger demons (the Upper Ranks) because those fights lead to too many deaths. Instead, Kiriya is working hard to find Muzan himself, using Yushiro’s unique abilities and special crows. He’s also mapping out a confusing, endless labyrinth with help from his sisters and other support staff, hoping to aid those fighting for a better future.
7) Doma Reveals His Horrifying Blood Demon Art

Most people underestimate how powerful Doma is with his Blood Demon Art. Combined with his incredible speed, it’s nearly impossible for anyone to find an opening against him. He injured Shinobu’s lungs before the fight truly started, and she quickly realized she couldn’t win. In reality, Doma wasn’t even trying to fight her seriously; he was just toying with her, though he was briefly surprised by her speed.
He deliberately allowed her opportunities to try and poison him, hoping to gauge the effectiveness of her toxins. But he never anticipated that underestimating Shinobu and becoming complacent would ultimately lead to his defeat.
6) Shinobu’s Insect Breathing Against Doma

Shinobu developed Insect Breathing as a way to overcome her relatively weak physical strength, focusing instead on maximizing her incredible speed. This breathing style includes at least four different techniques, with the Dance of the Centipede: Hundred-Legged Zigzag being its most powerful. During a fight, Doma quickly injured Shinobu by slicing through her collarbone and ribs, and even punctured a lung, making it extremely difficult for her to breathe.
Despite the challenging circumstances, she executed the Centipede form flawlessly. Her speed was so incredible that even Doma struggled to follow her movements – a feat unmatched by anyone else in the series. She managed one last strike with her sword before he absorbed her, unaware of the severe consequences his actions would bring.
5) The Entry to the Infinity Castle

The film opens with all the Corps members suddenly appearing inside the Infinity Castle. If they were normal people, the fall would have been fatal. This dramatic scene, set to Aimer’s song “A World Where the Sun Never Rises,” immediately builds excitement and makes viewers eager to see what happens next.
Tanjiro is having trouble standing when Giyu Tomioka steps in to help, having been following him ever since they first encountered each other. The scene showing the vastness of the Infinity Castle is truly breathtaking, giving viewers a sense of just how scary and immense the endless maze really is.
4) Zenitsu’s Original Thunder Breathing Form

After reading a strange letter during the final part of the Hashira Training, Zenitsu’s personality completely shifted – he stopped complaining and became intensely focused. The Infinity Castle arc reveals the reason: Zenitsu discovered that his master, Jigoro Kuwajima (the former Rumble Hashira), had died. Jigoro had trained both Zenitsu and another student, Kaigaku, hoping one would succeed him, but Kaigaku ultimately became a demon.
Zenitsu only learned the very first sword form, while Kaigaku knew all of them except that one. If they’d both followed their master Jigoro’s vision, they would have shared the role of successor, but Kaigaku resented this idea. Zenitsu, however, always admired his senior. Because he struggled to learn the other forms, Zenitsu created his own Seventh Form, unaware he’d eventually use it against Kaigaku. This new form was incredibly powerful, allowing him to defeat an Upper Rank Six demon with a single strike.
3) Tanjiro Finally Sees the Transparent World

One of the most visually stunning moments in the series shows Tanjiro surpassing his own boundaries and discovering a hidden realm. Throughout the story, Tanjiro consistently grows stronger with each battle, and his fight within Infinity Castle was no exception. Realizing that he and Giyu were completely overwhelmed by Akaza, Tanjiro paused to carefully evaluate their options.
Tanjiro recalled his conversation with Inosuke and the unusual abilities of his father, which helped him develop a unique skill: he could see inside living beings as if their skin wasn’t there. This power was rare, only appearing in certain skilled Demon Slayers, and not everyone who had it unlocked it during the final battle. When Tanjiro’s ability activated, he entered a trance-like state, becoming almost undetectable. This slowed his perception of motion, allowing him to approach Akaza closely enough to strike a fatal blow.
2) Akaza’s Heartbreaking Backstory and His Gratitude to Tanjiro

Demons typically die when their heads are cut off by a Nichirin blade, but Akaza was an exception. Even after Tanjiro severed his head, Akaza managed to regenerate. Tanjiro and Giyu were already badly injured, and would likely have died if Akaza had fully recovered. Instead, Akaza felt a strange pull, stopping him, and began to question his relentless pursuit of power. This leads to a heartbreaking story revealing Akaza’s past – he was once a gentle, but deeply troubled, child named Hakuji.
Hakuji finally found happiness after a long struggle, but tragedy struck right before his wedding when his fiancée and master were poisoned by a rival martial arts school. In a furious rage, he single-handedly killed 67 members of that school, only to then encounter Muzan. That day, Akaza lost his memories and his humanity, but Tanjiro helped him remember who he was as he was dying. Realizing the reason he’d strived for power was gone, Akaza chose to die. Sadly, Tanjiro never learned why Akaza was so grateful before Akaza turned to dust.
1) Giyu and Tanjiro’s Tag Team Against Akaza

I’ve always loved the connection between Giyu and Tanjiro! From the start, it was clear they had something special, but it really struck me how consistently Giyu was there to protect and guide Tanjiro. I think he saw a bit of himself in Tanjiro, someone who’d lost so much to demons, and that’s why he went above and beyond to help him. He wasn’t just responsible for sending Tanjiro on the path to becoming a Demon Slayer, but he was genuinely surprised – and relieved – to see Nezuko was still alive when they reunited after two years. And honestly, his willingness to risk his life for Nezuko during that first Hashira meeting, after barely knowing them, really showed what kind of person he is!
Giyu didn’t know that Tanjiro had changed dramatically. The once fragile boy had become a powerful warrior, capable of fighting alongside the Hashira and challenging even the Upper Ranks. While Giyu relied on years of training and precise Water Breathing, Tanjiro fought more on intuition, using his Sun Breathing for fast, impactful attacks. They understood each other’s abilities and limitations completely, always prioritizing each other’s well-being. This deep understanding was the key to their incredibly effective teamwork.
