A Cartoon Network Classic Is Returning to TV After 17 Years (But There’s a Catch)

A beloved classic from Cartoon Network is coming back to television, but in an unexpected place. Cartoon Network has seen a lot of changes recently, with shifts in what’s shown on TV and how easily shows are available on streaming services. It’s become harder to rewatch favorite shows from later years because many have been removed from streaming platforms.

It’s especially true for shows like *My Gym Partner’s a Monkey*, which isn’t usually mentioned alongside other popular Cartoon Network shows from the 2000s. It’s difficult to find streaming unless you buy it, and it hasn’t been shown regularly on TV since it finished in 2008, except for one brief period. Luckily, it’s coming back to television on Discovery Family starting Saturday, October 11th, as noted by @CNSchedules on X.

My Gym Partner’s a Monkey Returns to TV Soon

The cartoon *My Gym Partner’s a Monkey* originally aired on Cartoon Network from 2005 to 2008, lasting for four seasons. It briefly returned in 2012 as part of the Cartoon Planet programming block, but that only lasted two years. That means the show hasn’t been on TV for over eleven years, and even longer if you watched it originally. Unfortunately, it’s been difficult to watch the series since then, as it hasn’t been available on any streaming services in the United States.

My Gym Partner’s a Monkey was one of the first original shows Cartoon Network Studios produced in the early 2000s, a time when the network was changing its approach. While a few other original series came out around then, fans don’t generally remember them as fondly as the shows from the 1990s or even later in the 2000s. These shows also didn’t benefit from the network’s later success with popular series like Adventure Time and Regular Show, both of which are currently being revived.

What Happened to My Gym Partner’s a Monkey?

While *My Gym Partner’s a Monkey* wasn’t a poorly made show, it unfortunately came out at a difficult time for Cartoon Network. The network was starting to shift away from cartoons and towards live-action kids’ shows, similar to what Nickelodeon was doing. Because of this change, shows airing during that period, including *My Gym Partner’s a Monkey*, didn’t get much attention as overall interest in animated programming declined.

For various reasons, this period of Cartoon Network history has largely been forgotten. That’s why, when Cartoon Network highlighted its shows on HBO Max at the streaming service’s launch, *My Gym Partner’s a Monkey* wasn’t included. However, with upcoming broadcasts on Discovery Family, fans will finally have another opportunity to watch the episodes.
