Stalker 2’s 1.6 update brings with it nighttime fun and a bit of heat

Okay, so Stalker 2 just got a big update – 1.6 is live! I jumped in and things are already way more intense. They added this new anomaly called the Fireball, which is seriously dangerous, and now I can actually *see* at night thanks to the new night vision goggles. It makes exploring so much better!

As a long-time fan, I’m really excited about these new night vision goggles! GSC Game World says they’ll be a game-changer, whether you’re just starting out in the Zone or you’re a veteran stalker. Let’s be real, the Zone gets *dark* – especially when you’re out in the wilderness, which is pretty much always. These NVGs look like they’re going to be seriously useful for surviving out there.

If you’re looking for a pair, GSC recommends checking with someone called “Old Friend” in Zaton – they can help you find what you need.

Of course, you won’t be the only one with this new equipment. Other stalkers will also have night vision goggles, which will definitely make nighttime adventures more interesting.

The latest update introduces a new aiming feature for night vision goggles that should make close-range fights smoother, letting you adjust your weapon for better control. According to GSC Game World, this gives players a significant edge in combat within the game’s harsh environment. They’ve also added a powerful laser pointer to help you aim more accurately in the dark.

Meanwhile, a new and dangerous anomaly called the fireball has appeared. It generates extreme heat, which GSC Game World warns will be a serious threat to anyone who encounters it. Basically, the Zone is becoming even more hazardous. Great.

Plus, there are several other improvements and adjustments, including the ability to customize how the controls feel, a system for backing up and restoring your saved games locally, a refresh of items found in your storage, and general performance upgrades.

Like a magpie drawn to shiny objects, I got sidetracked and didn’t finish exploring the game, but each new update makes me want to return. I’m thinking I’ll wait until the major engine upgrade, when the game switches to Unreal Engine 5.5.4, before diving back in.
