As a huge fan of the *Borderlands* series, I’ve been following the discussions around *Borderlands 4* closely. It’s pretty common for these kinds of games to get some nerfs after launch to balance things out, but Gearbox is doing something different! They’re actually planning their first round of *buffs*! Graeme Timmins, the creative director, posted on X about all the feedback they’ve been seeing, and apparently players have already found some really strong builds. It’s cool to see them focusing on making things even better instead of just fixing problems right away.
He explained that some player builds currently exploit unexpected combinations of game features, and those will be addressed in the future. However, the team is prioritizing improving weaker classes and skills first, before making any adjustments to those that are currently too strong.
Timmins explained that they’ve noticed discussions about powerful character builds that rely on unexpected combinations or the knife weapon. However, instead of immediately changing those builds, the team is first focusing on improving weaker weapons and abilities. They plan to address the problematic builds later.
People who are excited about *Borderlands 4* reacted well to Timmins’ recent update, and many offered helpful suggestions for improvements. For example, one player pointed out that some skills and weapons feel underused and could be improved, while another suggested that knife and stacked damage are currently too powerful and need to be adjusted.
Borderlands 4 came out on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S earlier this month and has already been a hit, selling over 2 million copies. However, Gearbox, the game’s developer, has also faced criticism from players due to performance problems with the game.
Criticism of the game peaked last week when Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford suggested players use features like DLSS to improve performance, and advised those still dissatisfied to request a refund.
Pitchford explained at the time that players are free to play the game as they choose. However, he also stated that if they’re dissatisfied, they should request a refund from Steam. He used a vehicle analogy, saying it doesn’t make sense to expect a monster truck with a high-performance engine to handle like a sports car. He offered to help players improve their experience if they shared their system specifications.
Okay, so the game’s been having some serious performance problems, especially on the PS5 and Xbox – looks like there are even some memory leaks. Because of all that, the developers had to delay the Switch 2 version. It was supposed to come out October 3rd, but now there’s no new release date yet. It’s frustrating, but hopefully they’ll get it sorted out!
We’ve noticed discussions about powerful strategies that rely on unexpected combinations or the knife weapon. While we’ll address those eventually, our first priority is to improve gear and skills that aren’t performing well. We’re focusing on boosting weaker options first.
