With September ending, the gaming industry is heading into its busiest time of year as the holidays approach. We’re seeing both seasonal spooky games for October and major, highly anticipated titles that are expected to be top sellers. There are so many new releases coming out that it’s unlikely most players will be able to experience them all, but many will likely add them to their list of games to play later. It’s been a strong year for gaming already, and we can expect some potential Game of the Year winners to emerge in the coming months.
I’ve created a list of the most anticipated game releases for the rest of the year, organized by when they come out. There’s a little something for every type of gamer!
Silent Hill f
After over ten years, a brand new, full Silent Hill game has finally arrived this week. While fans enjoyed the free download *Silent Hill: The Short Message* and the well-received remake of *Silent Hill 2* last year – which helped breathe new life into the series – it’s been a long wait. The franchise stalled in 2015 when Konami cancelled *Silent Hills*, a highly anticipated project, and the last major game, *Silent Hill: Downpour*, came out in 2012.
Silent Hill f offers a fresh perspective on the series, surprisingly taking place in Japan rather than the familiar haunted town. The game centers around a young schoolgirl and utilizes the psychological horror the series is known for in a unique way. Early reviews are very positive, demonstrating Konami’s ability to both remake classic Silent Hill titles and create compelling new stories.
Ghost of Yotei
The highly anticipated *Ghost of Yotei*, the follow-up to the popular *Ghost of Tsushima*, launches on PS5 October 2nd. Fans are excited for this new installment, as *Tsushima* was praised for its engaging story and solid gameplay. *Ghost of Yotei* is set hundreds of years after the original, meaning players can jump in without needing to know anything about the first game.
Even if it doesn’t receive universal praise, the new game will likely satisfy fans of *Ghost of Tsushima* by improving on the enjoyable gameplay from the 2020 release. It’s still too early to say if it will be a critical success, but it’s expected to be one of the year’s biggest releases from the game’s publisher.
Battlefield 6
The next *Battlefield* game is aiming to revitalize the popular military shooter series after the disappointing launch of *Battlefield 2042*. While *2042* suffered from creative issues and a rough release, the new installment appears to be a strong step forward. It will offer massive 64-player battles on expansive maps, allow players to create and share their own content through a feature called Portal, and even includes a single-player story campaign – a feature notably absent from *2042*.
So, I’m really hyped for Battlefield 6! It’s coming out on October 10th, and get this – they’re even adding a battle royale mode, though it’ll drop a little later after the main game launches. From what I’ve seen, it looks like they’re trying to give us everything we longtime fans want, but also make it super appealing to new players. It seems like a really packed game for the price!
Pokemon Legends: Z – A
Pokemon Legends: Z-A is a major new game for the Nintendo Switch 2 and one of the console’s biggest releases this year. It’s expected to be a fresh experience for Pokemon fans, offering a different style of gameplay than previous titles. After previewing the game, ComicBook’s Amanda Kay Oaks believes it maintains the series’ quality and will be enjoyable for players when it launches on October 16th.
According to a preview, the key to a successful ‘Legends’ Pokémon game is trying new things. It’s a chance for the series to break from its traditional formula and explore different gameplay ideas. This approach can attract both longtime fans and newcomers who might not be interested in the standard Pokémon experience. While *Pokémon Legends: Z-A* felt different from typical Pokémon games, it was still highly engaging and potentially very time-consuming.
The Outer Worlds 2
The highly anticipated sequel to Obsidian’s popular RPG, *The Outer Worlds 2*, is on the way. Building on what fans loved about the first game, the sequel promises even more humor and satire, along with enhanced gameplay. Developed under the Xbox umbrella, the game benefited from collaboration with teams like Halo Studios, resulting in significantly improved combat. A major new feature will be an expanded perk system.
The game pays attention to how you play and learns your habits, which can lead to both benefits and drawbacks. For instance, if you frequently crouch, you might gain a speed boost while doing so, but standing up could cause a loud popping sound that alerts nearby characters. This system is designed to make the game more dynamic and interesting, offering useful perks with unexpected consequences. *The Outer Worlds 2* is scheduled to launch on October 29th.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7
The next installment in the Call of Duty franchise, *Black Ops 7*, will continue the story of *Black Ops 6* while also serving as a sequel to the popular *Black Ops 2*. Set in 2035-ten years after the events of *Black Ops 2*-the game puts players back in the shoes of David Mason as he faces off against the returning villain, Raul Menendez. The cooperative campaign promises a mind-bending experience, taking players through the shared histories of Mason and Menendez, which will likely result in memorable and unusual gameplay moments and conflicts.
Multiplayer will be the main attraction in *Black Ops 7*. It will launch with 18 maps, including reimagined versions of popular maps like Raid, Express, and Hijacked from *Black Ops 2*. A key new feature is wall-jumping, which acts as a stepping stone to the wall-running mechanics seen in other *Black Ops* games. This allows players to bounce off walls to traverse gaps, reach higher areas, or quickly evade enemies.
Fans of the Zombies mode will enjoy a new, round-based experience reminiscent of Tranzit, featuring an upgradeable pick-up truck for getting around the map. Overall, it looks like a great addition to the series. *Black Ops 7* comes out on November 14th.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
After almost ten years in the making, with several hurdles along the way and even a switch in development teams, *Metroid Prime 4: Beyond* is set to launch on December 4th for both Nintendo Switch and the new Nintendo Switch 2. The game continues Samus Aran’s adventure, sending her to fight enemies and explore a brand-new planet. Players will even be able to use a motorcycle, adding some open-world gameplay to the experience. It’s one of the most eagerly awaited games for the Nintendo Switch 2, and fans are hoping the long development time results in an incredible game.
