For quite some time, the Arrowverse has been at the heart of efforts to introduce the vast array of DC characters to TV viewers. Starting from 2012’s “Arrow” and expanding to incorporate a series of interwoven shows such as “Batwoman,” “Supergirl,” and “Legends of Tomorrow,” this universe’s main narrative thread concluded officially with the finale of “The Flash” season 9 in 2023.
Although James Gunn’s reimagined DC Universe promises a fresh wave of film and TV content for DC fans, there is still a sense of nostalgia among viewers who miss the first expansive television universe in the franchise. However, two new shows have shown that the stars from the Arrowverse still hold significant appeal for audiences.
Countdown & The Waterfront Both Feature Arrowverse Cast Members
Prime Video’s & Netflix’s New Crime Dramas Feature Some Familiar Faces
At the moment, both Countdown and The Waterfront are ranking high on their respective streaming platforms, Prime Video and Netflix. Fans of the Arrowverse will likely recognize some of the actors in these shows. Alongside Jensen Ackles in his latest crime drama, Countdown, appear Jessica Camacho and Violett Beane, who previously starred in The Flash.
Camacho, portraying Countdown’s DEA agent Amber Oliveras, made her debut on The Flash in season 3 as the Earth-19 bounty hunter Gypsy. Over time, she developed a long-distance romance with Carlos Valdes’s character, Vibe. On the other hand, Beane, who plays FBI agent Evan Shepherd, portrayed Jesse Wells from Earth-2, also known as Jesse Quick.
Currently, Netflix’s show titled “The Waterfront” features Melissa Benoist, who was previously known for her role as Supergirl in the Arrowverse. In this new series, she takes on a character who is recovering from alcohol and drug addiction. This latest role represents a significant change for Benoist, deviating from her past adventures fighting crime while wearing superhero costumes.
Why Countdown & The Waterfront Are Worth Watching For Arrowverse Fans
The Supergirl and Flash Stars Get A Chance To Flex Their Acting Muscles
After portraying Kara Zor-El throughout Supergirl’s six seasons, some Arrowverse fans might find it challenging to witness Melissa Benoist take on the role of Bree Buckley, a character that is grittier and deeply flawed. Bree is intelligent yet prone to anger and battling with her sobriety, demonstrating Benoist’s versatility as an actress and offering viewers a fresh perspective on her talent.
In this show, Countdown’s former Arrowverse cast members, Camacho and Beane, get a chance to display their crime-fighting skills in a universe devoid of costumed superheroes. Additionally, it puts them squarely against Ackles, who was long desired by fans as the Batman choice within the Arrowverse.
Although these fresh shows provide a distinctly new type of viewing enjoyment compared to the thrill of watching both The Flash and Supergirl, these latest streaming productions still give fans an opportunity to rekindle their relationships with some beloved characters from the Arrowverse.
