The popular PlayStation game series, God of War, is turning 20 this year. While Sony hasn’t made a big deal out of the anniversary so far, many fans expected a major announcement during the recent September 2025 State of Play presentation. Unfortunately, the God of War news wasn’t a new game; instead, PlayStation revealed a special edition controller.
To mark 20 years of Kratos, PlayStation has released a special edition DualSense controller for the PS5. The controller’s design is inspired by Kratos’ appearance, featuring a grayish-white color scheme reminiscent of his skin. His signature red face tattoo extends across the right side, covering the R1 and R2 buttons. The face buttons and D-pad arrows also share this striking red color. The phrase “God of War: 20th Anniversary” is printed on the back. You can find detailed photos of the controller from all angles on the PlayStation Blog.
The New God of War PS5 Controller Is Out Soon
This unique controller will be available in limited numbers for $84.99 – the same price as other high-end controllers, and $10 more than a standard one. We don’t have a specific release date yet, as it will vary by location. However, you can pre-order it starting October 3rd at 7 am Pacific Time on PlayStation’s online store and from select retailers. That’s 10 am local time in the UK, France, Germany, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg.
This special controller is part of Santa Monica Studio’s ongoing celebration of the God of War anniversary. It began in March with a surprise update to *God of War Ragnarok* that included new outfits and equipment for the characters, inspired by the black and gold Dark Odyssey armor from *God of War II*.
Despite a lot of talk and speculation, many fans were hoping for a bigger announcement. Rumors have circulated about a new action platformer with a 2.5D perspective, set in Ancient Greece. There’s also been talk of remakes or updated versions of older games from the series’ Greek mythology period, and even a possible brand-new game taking place in Egypt. So far, none of these reports have been confirmed, so it’s uncertain if any of them are accurate.
Many people commenting on the YouTube video seem unhappy with this controller. Some are disappointed there wasn’t a new game announced, while others feel PlayStation is overcharging for a controller that’s almost identical to the standard version, except for a slightly different color.
