Venus Williams Shares Sweet Nickname Serena Williams’ Kids Call Her

Venus Williams‘ nickname is a total ace.

The tennis star revealed the adorable nicknames her sister Serena Williams’ children – eight-year-old Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr. and two-year-old Adira River Ohanian – use for her.

In a May 2025 article for UsWeekly, Venus shared, “My nieces call me Auntie Vivi.”

Venus deeply values her close bond with her nieces. She considers being a big sister her greatest achievement.

Alexis and Adira are getting a new uncle! Venus recently announced her engagement to actor and model Andrea Preti in July. She confirmed the news to the media after a match, sharing that Andrea was there supporting her and encouraged her to keep playing.

She mentioned he was watching her play for the very first time that day, and it might have been good luck – she won her first singles match in over a year!

After her victory at the Mubadala Citi DC Open 2025, she continued her success at the U.S. Open, but with a new partner. Her sister had retired in 2022. Serena was thrilled to see Venus, now 45, teaming up with 22-year-old Leylah Fernandez and achieving success, though she playfully admitted to feeling a little envious.

Okay, so I was *obsessed* watching Serena’s TikTok from August 31st! It showed her and her partner before their match, and then she turned the camera to *herself*, and honestly? The shade! She did this playful eye roll, and then, get this, she like *forced* a smile, but her eyes were darting around like she was so annoyed! It was amazing, you could just *feel* the tension, even in a little TikTok clip. I’ve rewatched it like a million times!

Serena Williams jokingly shared on TikTok August 31st that she was glad to see her sister Venus paired with a new doubles partner, Leylah Fernandez, and that they were winning together.

However, earlier in the tournament Serena shared how proud she was of her big sis.

On August 26th, she shared on Instagram how incredibly proud she is of Venus Williams, saying words couldn’t express her admiration for Venus’s strength, courage, perseverance, and inspiring character. She added that she aspires to be just like her.

Serena Williams and her husband, Alexis Ohanian, chose not to learn the sex of their baby before birth, but Serena always had a feeling she was expecting a girl. She told *Vogue* that after finding out she was pregnant, she played in the Australian Open. She joked to Alexis that it must be a girl because she was able to compete in extremely hot weather without any problems, proving how resilient women are.

In an interview with *Vogue* before her baby was born, Serena Williams talked about planning to return to tennis. She explained that she’d previously thought she might retire after having children, but she’s now certain she’ll be back on the court. “I used to think I’d want to retire when I have kids, but no,” she said. “I’m definitely coming back.”

Stepping onto the field and hearing the fans might not seem like much, but it’s an incredible feeling. This pregnancy, surprisingly, has made me feel stronger. I’ve always had mixed feelings about the idea of ‘power’ – and I think many women do. Sometimes, it feels like ‘power’ is seen as something negative for women.

Serena, a woman working in professional sports, has personally experienced sexism. She shared that she plans to openly discuss this issue with her daughter, explaining that as a woman herself, she’s well-equipped to help her navigate these challenges. She said, “It’s something we have to deal with, and I think as a mom, I’m probably one of the best people to help her with it, so we’ll definitely be talking about it!”

Speaking with TopMob News, Williams said she’s had a surprisingly enjoyable pregnancy. She admitted she often finds herself thinking how much she likes being pregnant, something she never expected to feel. She described herself as someone who genuinely embraces the experience.

I had a feeling it was coming,” Serena Williams told *Vanity Fair* when discussing learning she was pregnant. “I kept telling myself, ‘You’re 35, you’re prepared for this, and this is what you want.’ Just a year ago, if anyone had said I’d have a baby, I wouldn’t have believed them. It feels surreal, and everything is happening so quickly.”

Even after taking time off to have a baby, Serena Williams told Gayle King during a TED Talk in 2017 that her tennis career wasn’t finished. She explained, “This is just a new chapter in my life!” She’s excited for her baby to watch her play, hoping they’ll be cheering instead of crying.

During her speech at the BlogHer Conference in June 2017, Serena Williams shared the most important lesson her mother taught her: to be strong, proud of who you are, and confident enough to speak your mind. She hopes to pass that same confidence on to her child.

She announced she was expecting a baby in April 2017 and shared a heartfelt message to her child-to-be on Instagram. She wrote about how her baby had already given her unexpected strength and taught her what true peace feels like, expressing her excitement to finally meet them.

I’m so excited for you to be with me in the stands next year, but even more than that, I’m thrilled to share this moment-being ranked number one in the world-with you again today. Happy birthday to @alexisohanian! From the oldest world number one to the youngest-love, your Mom.
