PiXEL is releasing a new vertical-scrolling shooter called *Xelan Force AE* (also known as *Xelan Force Advanced Edition*) for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. It’s planned to launch in Japan in 2026, both as a digital download and a physical copy. The physical version will also include the original *Xelan Force*, presented in an 8-bit style.
Here is an overview of the game, via PiXEL:
Xelan Force is the 8-bit-style vertical-scrolling shoot ’em up originally released in 2024.
“An 8-bit console game released in the 80s reborn for arcades in the 90s with a new look!”
With that, a new story in the Xelan Force universe begins, exploring an alternate possibility.
The game features completely redrawn pixel art at a resolution of 320×224. We’ve added many more animations and used special visual effects to capture the feel of classic games, avoiding modern smoothing and scaling techniques to stay true to the original era’s style.
Many new characters also appear.
Yasuhiro Inazawa, the composer behind the original *Xelan Force*, is back for *Xelan Force AE*, enhancing the game with the rich sounds of FM synthesis.
