The climactic end of “Attack on Titan” was grandly commemorated by Studio MAPPA. Simultaneously, the epic conclusion unfolded on television screens, the final journey of the Scout Regiment expanded so vastly that it warranted a cinematic continuation through “Attack on Titan: The Last Attack”. More recently, Manabu Otsuka and Hiroya Hasegawa, the president and vice president of Studio MAPPA respectively, attended Anime Expo. We at egmr.ru were fortunate enough to engage in a conversation with them about the somber anime series. During our dialogue, the leaders of MAPPA hinted at the potential return of “Attack on Titan” and shared their thoughts on revisiting this universe.
The MAPPA executives shared that while they’re deeply fond of both “Attack on Titan: Before The Fall” and “Attack on School Castes,” they feel the ending of “Attack on Titan” was conclusive. They’ve done their best with the show, but if there’s ever a chance for fans to encourage them to work on these projects and if the author creates new material, they would certainly consider it. However, they find the existing ending so satisfying that they wouldn’t want to create something new just for the sake of it.
Before The Fall
As a fellow enthusiast of “Attack on Titan”, you might want to keep an eye out for the prequel series, “Attack on Titan: Before The Fall”. This light novel spin-off was penned by Ryo Suzukaze and it unfolds events that occurred a full seventy years before the main narrative. Instead of delving into characters like Eren Jaeger from Hajime Isayama’s work, this story centers around a boy named Kuklo who earned the moniker “Titan’s Son” due to his unusual discovery as an infant. Similar to Eren, Kuklo finds himself joining the Scout Regiment in order to aid humanity in their struggle against the devastation wrought by the Titans.
Although the creator of the “Attack on Titan” franchise, Hajime Isayama, hasn’t given any signs of making a follow-up series, he has continued to delve back into the universe. For instance, in the short story titled “Attack On Titan: Bad Boy“, Isayama explored the tumultuous past of beloved character Levi. It’s plausible that Isayama will expand on this world again, but it seems improbable that fans of the anime will witness a complete sequel anytime soon.
At Anime Expo, MAPPA’s team had more on their minds than just Attack on Titan. They unveiled a new trailer for an upcoming film, titled Chainsaw Man The Movie: The Reze Arc. This sneak peek gave us a glimpse of the challenges Denji will face in the movie. Slated for release in America this fall, the Chainsaw Devil’s theatrical debut underscores the fact that anime continues to be a significant force on the big screen.
