Is the reMarkable Paper Pro Move worth it? Hands-on review of the new digital notebook

I’ve been following reMarkable for a long time now – they always create really impressive digital notebooks that genuinely feel like paper. So, when they announced the newest version, the reMarkable Paper Pro Move, I was really excited to try it out.

This new device is basically a more portable version of the reMarkable Paper Pro, making it ideal for working while traveling or on the move.

This device features a 7.3-inch full-color screen and is incredibly lightweight at just 230g and only 6.5mm thick. Like other reMarkable products, the screen feels like paper thanks to its special textured glass, and it eliminates glare, making it easy to read even in bright sunlight. Plus, the battery lasts up to two weeks, and it can be charged to 90% in under 45 minutes.

Like previous reMarkable models, the Paper Pro Move lets you handwrite notes, turn your handwriting into digital text, and annotate PDFs or other files. You can easily upload these files using the reMarkable app.

The main question is the price – it’s £399. We’ve taken a close look to see if this tablet delivers enough value for the money.

Is the reMarkable Paper Pro Move worth it?

We recently had the chance to try out the new reMarkable Paper Pro Move, and here are our first impressions.

How does it feel to hold?

The reMarkable Paper Pro Move is comfortably sized to fit in your hand, much like a traditional reporter’s notebook.

The device measures 7.7 by 4.24 inches. According to reMarkable CEO Phil Hess, it’s designed to be spacious enough for work but compact enough to easily carry around. He explains that it allows you to stay present and engaged in conversations, whether you’re at a conference, airport, or coffee shop.

Hess is spot on with that assessment. The Paper Pro Move is perfectly sized for taking notes while you’re out and about. It feels comfortable in your hand – substantial enough to feel good, but not so big or heavy that you can’t easily hold it with one hand, which is a problem with some other notebooks. It feels more solid than just using your phone, too.

Because it’s more compact, there’s less writing space. But I didn’t find this to be a problem, as I mostly used it for quick lists and short notes – which might be because of its size.

The sample included a Leather Folio case, which protects your device and conveniently flips open for quick note-taking.

What is it like to write with?

The reMarkable tablet’s biggest appeal is that it feels like writing on paper, but without the environmental impact or the hassle of flipping through pages to find what you’re looking for.

It truly delivers on the feeling of writing with a pen and paper. The Marker Plus stylus feels remarkably natural on the tablet. You can select different pen types – like ballpoint, fountain pen, or fine liner – and each one responds to pressure just like the real thing. For example, pressing harder with the fountain pen setting creates thicker lines, just as it would with a real fountain pen.

We were also pleased to discover that the tablet only responds to the Marker when you’re writing. This means you can rest your hand on the screen without accidentally making unwanted marks – a big plus if you tend to smudge as you write!

There’s almost no delay – just 12 milliseconds – between writing and seeing the words appear on screen. Our only concern was that when erasing with the Marker Plus, a faint ghost image sometimes remained temporarily before fully disappearing.

How do the features work?

Okay, so when I first got my reMarkable, getting everything set up took a little figuring out. I didn’t realize right away that you *have* to download the reMarkable app on your phone or log in on your computer first. That’s how you get PDFs and other files onto the tablet. Once I did that, though, everything was smooth sailing – finding and marking up documents is super easy!

We liked trying out the range of colors, though a few weren’t as bright as we expected when writing. However, the colors looked great on files and documents we uploaded.

The screen’s adjustable backlight was excellent, providing perfect visibility without any glare issues.

The battery life truly lives up to the hype, lasting for the full two weeks as advertised. Plus, the initial charge was surprisingly quick, taking under 45 minutes, and we haven’t had to charge it again since – so it seems that performance is consistent!

Our verdict: Is it worth the cost?

The reMarkable Paper Pro Move delivers on its promises. It’s comfortable and natural to write on, lightweight, and versatile enough for many uses.

Even so, nearly £400 feels expensive, and that’s before you consider the cost of accessories like the Marker Plus pen and a protective case.

Okay, so here’s my take: if you *know* you’ll actually use a notebook regularly, definitely get this one. Seriously, if you go through notebooks quickly, do a lot of work outside of a desk, or are starting college and want to avoid endless typing during lectures, this is a total lifesaver. It’s become my go-to!

However, if you’re just an occasional list-maker, the notes app on your phone will do.
