As summer 2025 ended, several popular anime series concluded. Crunchyroll offered some standout titles throughout the year, including *Takopi’s Original Sin* and the exciting continuations of *Dandadan* and *Kaiju No. 8* with its second season. Many fans were particularly eager for the return of *My Dress-Up Darling* season 2, which continued the story of Marin Kitagawa and Gojo Wakana and their blossoming romance within the world of cosplay. Unfortunately, this season didn’t move their relationship forward much. Typically, romance anime either fully establish a couple by the end of the first or second season, and this season didn’t achieve that.
The first season of *My Dress-Up Darling* highlighted the fun of cosplay and included elements to please fans, leading many to expect a developing romance in the second season. However, season 2 spent all twelve episodes focusing on a series of cosplay competitions, adding new characters and revisiting familiar ones to celebrate their passion for the hobby. It was particularly frustrating because the story seemed to be building towards a romantic connection near the end, but the season concluded without delivering, finishing with an original scene that suggests the series might be over.
Crunchyroll’s My Dress-Up Darling May Not Ever Return

As the anime *My Dress-Up Darling* prepared for its season 2 finale – a cosplay of the ‘Coffin’ group – fans anticipated a confession of feelings from Marin to Gojo. After a season with little romantic development, many expected the couple to finally get together. However, the finale surprised viewers with an original scene of Marin and Gojo simply taking selfies, leaving many feeling unsatisfied with the season’s ending instead of the heartfelt confession they were hoping for.
The addition of this scene, which wasn’t in the original manga, feels out of place and raises concerns that the anime might not continue. The manga finished earlier this year, and while season 2 covered up to chapter 86, around 30 chapters are still left unadapted. With no news about a third season, this new ending suggests the anime may end here, leaving out the rest of the story.
With only a limited amount of source material remaining after two long seasons, a third season of *My Dress-Up Darling* seems unlikely. Fans might receive a short special episode focusing on the relationship between Marin and Gojo, but that’s probably all. The show spent much of its time on fan service and cosplay rather than developing the romance, and this focus may have ultimately hurt its chances of continuing as a full anime season.
